On our last trip, we got a good deal flying Virgin U/C MAN-Atlata-Jacksonville return. We booked 3 nights at Fernandina Beach (only about 30 mins drive away) for a few days relaxation before driving down to Orlando. Really enjoyed the area, and an ideal way to start the holiday.

The return flight left JAX around 5pm, again via Atlanta, so we just had a relaxing last morning around the pool before vacating the room and driving back up to JAX.

Also consider pricing up into FLL but back from MCO (that's what we are doing this year and much cheaper than direct to MCO and back) - this is with BA from LGW.

We're having a couple of beach days before short drive up to Disney

If you use the coast road you will see a little more but it is a lot slower and may not really give you the experience you are after.
We are on the BA but decided to add a day instead. Unlike Miami it's a nice place to relax so we've booked a suite for a quarter of the price of our room at Disney . We still have plenty of Disney days but will hit the parks fresher the next day. If time was tight we might have decided otherwise but this works for us. We will be hitting the parks hard so nice to have a more relaxed journey getting there.

My son is doing this as he's returning before us it was £70 more than FLL return so still a very decent saving.

When hiring car think about luggage as well as people! There's bound to be more on the way back - that's luggage, of course, not people!

We like to fly to Miami as it's a direct flight from Heathrow (which is on our doorstep) and both times we've saved a significant amount against flying to Tampa and Orlando. We stay over night when we land and try to fly out a day earlier so it doesn't impact our actual holiday days. We stayed by Miami airport in 2016, but this summer we're driving up to Deerfield Beach which is about an hour from Miami so gives us a head start the next day (and avoids the sometimes crazy traffic coming out of Miami in the morning) Both times we've paid around £2500 for flights heathrow to Miami, 7 seater car and the first nights hotel (16/08-04/09 so 19 days car hire - 2 adults and 10 & 12 year old) and Orlando has been well over £3500 for flights alone. DH loves driving in the states so it's not a bother doing the drive and the stop of at Vero Beach is one worth doing!

We usually fly Gatwick to Orlando. Decided to try Gatwick to Tampa this year for a change. I'm impressed that you are going to get 4 people and luggage comfortably into a mustang.

We flew in to Miami last year and are doing so again this year. We drove straight up the 27 the following morning and were in our villa at lunchtime (early check in). This year with BA direct both ways Heathrow to Miami return we have paid £2414 for 2 adults and one child including full size car and 3 nights at the Grand Plaza at St Pete’s beach, a price we were very happy with. We simply won’t pay hundreds more just to fly into MCO. The drive up the 27 is quite pleasant too.
