Agree! We also stayed here on a good deal and loved it. Very convenient for everything.

We've also stayed at the Skyline on 10th Avenue. This had a rooftop swimming pool (indoors) and was good value.

The Country Inn & Suites in Queens was 2 stops on the subway from Manhattan and Bloomingdales.

I'd stay at any of them again, but the Intercontinental is definitely the poshest! Most important thing is to be near a subway stop for tired feet!

We stayed at the New Yorker on our first trip, it was clean and tidy but quite compact. The location was ok and we would stay again if the price was good, we hardly spent any time in the room except to sleep. Our next trip we stayed at the Marriott Marquis at Times Square, the room here was much larger and we had fabulous views. Location was great, staff were excellent and would definitely recommend it.

We stayed at the Cambria in Chelsea last year which was a lovely hotel with good rooms and the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in. (It has 2 Queen beds which we needed with our 2 teenagers). We stayed in the Hilton garden inn on 35th street before that and have also stayed in The Metro. Recommend both. Really love that area, right by Macy’s but not so touristy as TS and very central to everything. Would recommend Andrews coffee shop on the corner of 35th and 7th Avenue for breakfast and the best bagel and coffee shop just across the road on 35th towards 8th Avenue. Big queue usually but well organised so doesn’t take long. My husband still raves about his bagel and he didn’t want to wait initially 😂 Have also stayed in Park Central and the Lexington Hotel but years ago and it wasn’t as buzzing and nice around Park Central as we remembered when we walked up that way last year (Maybe since Carnegie deli closed down)?

Stayed at the Shelburne last December and really good sized rooms. Have booked a BA holiday to stay at Marriott in Times Square next Easter if it goes ahead. Flight and hotel booking was cheaper for four of us than just flights and only had to pay deposit

Exciting! New York is one of our absolute fav places!

We have stayed at several places. Our recommendations would be;

Luxury; San Carlos upper west side (beautiful hotel in leafy area, the suites are fab)
Midrange; New Yorker (great location walkable from Penn station, opposite madison square gardens, subway on doorstep, great diner downstairs)
Budget; Comfort Inn Times Square south (very budget, basic but clean and safe, free breakfast every morning, no resort fees, 5 mins from TS)
