Has your friend checked that all of her keys are still accounted for?
Also just in case this was an attempt to steal anything please tell them to take car keys to bed with them.
Never take your keys to bed!
If a thief wants your car, make it easy for them to get your keys without having to deal with them face to face. Kitchen cupboard or something. You really dont want them angry and having them confront you. That will possibly end badly.

After a friend experiencing just this, we keep our keys in a faraday box in the hallway (as it's a keyless entry car), with a great big sticker on the top saying 'CAR KEYS'.

They are all over the country - Mr Tom knows about them in Wales - I was using London as an example. My Father had them outside Grantham so it’s far form usual - but then again I am nosey and notice these things
