Booking Virgin flights that can be upgraded

We already have our flights booked, Economy out and PE return, booked with money + miles. We now have two more people joining us and so I want to book them Economy flights which can be upgraded if we see a good PE price. How do I make sure that the flights that I book can be upgraded?

Do you mean you want to book them Money only flights please?

Or Miles plus Money?

Sorry I wasn’t very clear, the two extra flights will be money (I have no miles left unfortunately).

Ahh they are easy.

I have never seen cash seats being anything other than upgradeable. Book them onto the flight and when you have confirmation log into their booking and on the left hand side if they are offering it will be upgrade prices.

As an example. My Daughter is flying out to MCO in August as I need her to get the Granddaughter back home.

I check her booking regularly and always see 3 upgrade prices for each leg
These are the options for outbound:-

Extra legroom/exit seats. £50
PE. £230
UC. £1140

However as I paid for the ticket she can stay where she is.

Ha ha, thanks that’s great. They’ll only be getting the upgrade if I see a really good price as I’m paying for this trip. To be honest I know that they’re perfectly happy with economy as it’s free to them, so I must be mad to consider upgrading them.

Just be careful with which tier they buy in Economy, they'll need Economy Classic or Economy Delight tickets.

Economy Light cannot be upgraded.

No!

She is flying back PE as it is because our Granddaughter is coming out PE with us and I used a downgrade voucher for her so her flight is PE both ways for free.

Mum is doing Econ out and PE back.

It's given out when the seat you have booked is downgraded, say from PE to Econ, due to plane change etc. VA ask you if you're happy to downgrade and as a sweetener VA can offer you a voucher for a free return direct flight in the class you originally booked.
