This is a great thread - staying at the Dolphin or Swan is definitely on my to do list.
However, POR won over for us with the advantage of free DDP - staying at a moderate resort also means we can afford to do 3 weeks. Thanks for sharing your photos and thoughts Mazzy - great advice. |

Yes the free dining is great if you want your meals included. With two teens we eat at counter service mainly now, and eat a lot at Picabu at the Dolphin, and get 20% off food there with our AA cards, so it's quite a good deal. We've stayed at POR and POFQ, they are both lovely resorts, but the rooms are too small for us now, as we have a boy and girl so need 3 beds, so the Dolphin works out cheaper for us than booking 2 moderate rooms and we absolutely love the views!

I love the Dolphin Hotel. We stayed in it for just the 1 night last November but it was the highlight of my holiday. The comfiest beds ever and we had 2 balconies which was amazing.
Sitting out on the balcony overlooking the boardwalk watching the early morning joggers while the sun comes up is absolute heaven to me. I could have sat there for the rest of our holiday. |

Wow, 18 stays, that's amazing, you really do love the place then? Our first every trip in May 1999 we stayed at the Dolphin, and it's been special to us ever since. So what year was that when it first opened? We still call Picabu Tubbi's, it will always be Tubbi's to us, do you remember the tubby boy statue they used to have outside? Poor little thing has disappeared now! Not sure when we will be back, as we want to go to San Diego next year, and also Disneyland California, but we WILL be back at the Dolphin some time in the future.

Oh the Heavenly Beds are amazing aren't they, it's so hard to get up in the morning! We love having a balcony and usually get one, even if we haven't paid for one, they are so good to their SPG members, if they have what you ask for available, they will give it to you.

HAHAHA Yup we still call it tubbi's too. What about Blue Zoo, do you call it the coral cafe? What about the dancing waiters? Dont think they dance anymore do they? It is a really magical place to be but has went through a couple of changes since we started going. There use to be a club level (12th floor, dunno if your familliar with it) which is long gone now. Err what else, oh do you remember the old carpets with the beach towels on them hahah. I miss the silly things like that. I am rubbish at remembering dates and stuff. Plus i was only a wee guy when we first went, but i'll ask my dad when your first visit was and get back to you. Im sure iv got a pic of the Tubbi boy statue somewhere, i'll look it out for you

great photo's
We have visited a lot, we are neighbours ( Boardwalk and Beachclub DVC ) It reminds me of the hotels in Vegas. We have eaten in the restaurant and might have shared either a boat or a bus with you |
