Gorillapod tripod

I know that selfie sticks are not allowed, but I've just got a small gorillapod tripod - about 15 cm high. Would I be able to use that to hold my camera for video/pics?

We had one for our GoPro and it was fine. Pretty certain you will be ok. We just got asked “does it extend?” And when we replie no, they were happy.

Yes, it will be fine. As above, they're only really concerned if it extends.

I've recently bought my first Digital SLR. Are they worth having, I don't have a tripod or any other accessories for it really?

its not strictly a replacement for a good tripod, i use them for different reasons - they are good to wrap onto other things - i use mine a lot to attach my dslr to a lighting tripod for weddings or to strap a gopro (knockoff) to random things like microphone stands.

remember its only half a foot off the ground, so a tripod or monopod is still useful for certain applications, but a gorillapod is an essential tool IMO. just make sure you get a genuine one - the cheap knockoffs are usually terribly built, and often not sturdy enough for heavier cameras...
