Sport in Florida
What kinds of sports have you seen live in Florida? What would you recommend going to watch with kids? And, finally, what could we see in July/August?

Over the years we've seen a lot of NFL, college football (American football), ice hockey, basketball and baseball.
All events are extremely family friendly and safe - although you may be a little limited in July/August as 'football' (both college and NFL), ice hockey and basketball are winter sports in the US. Baseball would be on - Tampa Bay Rays play in the MLB and are a decent side, tickets pretty cheap as well. You may be able to see a 'soccer' game - Orlando has an MLS team, but we've never been as we'd rather go see something we can't really watch at home! |

July/August you'll be Baseball & MLS, you'll probably get WWE Nxt local shows as they are based in Orlando too.
There's also a summer american football league which is indoor (NAL) local team is Orlando Predators, this year it ran from April to late July but they are hoping for an expansion to grow the league.

Yeah - July/August is baseball season.
As well as the Rays in Tampa, there are also a few Minor League Teams in Florida. Florida Fire Frogs in Kissemee (for the time being), Lakeland Flying Tigers amongst others. milb/about/leagues-teams |

We went to watch Orlando City in August this year, took a 6yr old and 2yr old. It was really good, completely different to football in the UK. Different atmosphere, so family friendly, arrive early for lots of freebies, no hostility, a really good experience, I’d highly recommend it!

Stock car racing. Plenty of short oval tracks around Central Florida. If NASCAR interests you, there is a big race at Daytona normally around the beginning of July.
Baseball is a favourite of ours. We actually prefer the Minor League games. Lakeland Tigers affiliated to the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Yankees affiliated to the NY Yankees are not far away really. A favourite of ours is the Jackie Robinson Ball Park in Daytona, home of the Daytona Tortugas.

As we go Oct, Nov, we have been to see Bucs in NFL and Lightning in NHL. We are going again this Nov seeing Bucs v Cardinals and then Lightning v Winnipeg Jets. Got to say I prefer the ice hockey, its absolutely brilliant. Big Rays fan too but never been in baseball season.

We have tried a number of different ways to watch sport in Florida.
Orlando City SC has been a great night out and as others have said is a child friendly night out of the Football /Soccer!. Baseball -we have been to see Tampa bay Rays a few times now and again the whole night out is something to behold - totally immersive and even if you don't understand baseball has so much to offer it is well worth it - offers on tickets too - we got Friday night seats in a good spot for just $7-11 due to a promotion for every home Friday game with 7-11 - bit of a bargain. We have also tried to see Lakeland Flying Tigers which is the minor league baseball but we keep getting rained out - there customer service people are fab though as they can't believe anyone from the UK would be wanting to visit them In the late August calendar you might catch a Tampa Bay Buchaneers pre season game or if you fancy a drive Jacksonville or Miami for NFL.
