DIY help please - repairing a leaky tap

I have set myself the task of repairing the leaky tap in our utility room

Google and you tube have been a big help and I think I need to replace the cartridge.

To find out what one I need to order though I need to take the old one out.

Am I right in thinking that the red lever in the picture below will turn off the water supply so that I can take the tap apart?

That red tap is in the off position and looks like an outlet for a washing machine. Don't open it or you'll flood the cabinet .

Agreed. That's a redundant outlet from when washing machines used to use hot water as well as cold.

To be safe that needs capping off. You can buy a proper bit of kit and some PTFE tape to do that and it's only circa £3 for the lot. Saves a flood!

that is a hot water supply for a washing machine that is not being used so dont go turning that tap on. the machine is connected with a cold supply only and s the blue tap and the grey hose behind

you will need to look again for your cold water supply

Thanks 🙏

Found two screw things behind the cabinet that turned the water off.

I’ve managed to take the tap apart now I just need to find a reliable part. Unfortunately there’s no code in the cartridge 🤷

And now your fun starts! There are literally dozens and dozens of ceramic cartridges.

Do you know the name of the tap and style.

For example a Nabis Jupiter etc etc. That will give you a good steer.

No idea but it’s not a ceramic cartridge. ETA apparently it is ceramic inside 😂

I think this from screw fix might work

This is the old one

Well it certainly doe look like it may be the right one.

Have you a good tape measure to check yours v the Screwfix one. That should give you the answer
Best of luck, always nice to get a job done yourself. So satisfying.

Oh, when you are in Screwfix buy a compression stop end and some PTFE tape. You can cap off the old washing machine valve so it never gets turned on by accident. Only a few bob.

Right well that didn’t work 😞

It’s stopped the drip so I’m part way there.

The base still leaks so I need to check the seals but can’t fathom out how to remove the next part to get to it. Any ideas? It’s the brass coloured bit I need to remove I think.
