York restaurant recommendations please.

We are looking at booking a night in York for our wedding anniversary and am looking for some restaurant recommendations. Doesn’t have to be too fancy but decent food and surround and central as we will be walking from hotel. We eat most types of food and won’t have the kids with us! Thanks.

The only recommendation I have is for a chip shop (Wackers) but that’s probably not what you want . I am fairly sure that I commented on a very similar thread (maybe search for Wackers?) because there were some good recommendations on there. HTH.

'The star in the city' is lovely nice ambience, good food. in the museum park gardens next to the river. It is part of a group of restaurants including a Michelin starred one.

there is also 'Roots' the other side of the gardens down marygate. not been there but understand it is another Michelin starred chefs venture into the city.

Pairings is lovely, by the church at the bottom of Coppergate. We went a few days ago after seeing the interactive Van Gogh exhibition.

My 2 favourite local restaurants are a bit more casual but lovely, Lucias luciawinebar/york or cut and craft thecutandcraft/ both owned by the same person.

The Press Kitchen, Fish and Forest or Skosh. All slightly less formal dining but excellent food from talented chefs. Everywhere in York is walking distance!

Our favourite is Rustique. French restaurant with a great value set menu. Drinks prices are reasonable too. It’s near the Hilton hotel, where we usually stay (for convenience).

Delrios Italian is great. Also like rustique and ambient tapas (the goodramgate one). Avoid the new tomahawk steak place. Went last month and it was awful.
