Alternative to go pro

My son is off to the Great Barrier Reef later this month and would like to take some sort of go pro but can’t afford an actual go pro . Can anyone recommend an easy to use cheaper version? Cheers

Don't know if they ever still do them, but we got a cheap one from Aldi a couple of years ago for a really low further discounted price. Something like £20.

Works fine.

It really depends on how cheap you want to go...GoPro do a budget version that is a fair bit cheaper than the current Hero 7.

Another idea would be to buy secondhand, there is always some risk involved with this but if you do your research, with a little luck you can get a great deal.

sjcam make the sj4000, which is a great camera, but stock of genuine models is hard to find now. but they still make other models, including the SJ8. ive not used this model, but i have no reason to believe the quality isnt as good as the sj4000, but with wifi and 4k)

amazon/SJCAM-Water...nguag e=en_GB

search this forum for sj4000 and youll find plenty of threads about them. i own several still and they work just as well as when i got them several years ago.

I bought a YI action cam, with a waterproof case. Mine was an amazon glitch, but I think they’re around £70. We love that we can let the kids use it, in the wave pool, down the slides, and not worry about the cost if they dropped it, etc.
There is an app for easy download to my iPad, takes a regular microSD card, and the battery was lasting all day, even with all of us doing lots of photos and videos.

Thank you all , he’s bought one this afternoon off amazon before I could show him the thread . It looks ok for the £15.99 he paid for it and he said he won’t be frightened of losing/dropping it ( he’s 18) . amazon/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just to update , it really is a fab little of kit for the money . So much easier to use than our original go pro and picture quality is excellent and it’s got WiFi so he can just connect it to his phone. Highly recommend one if you don’t want a massive price tag .
