Recommendations for Amsterdam
It's years since a trip there and I can't remember hardly anything. Which area is best to stay, waterside appeals. And any hotel recimmdations are welcome, budget around £100 per night.

We stayed in the Sint Nicholas. Across the road from train station so really central. Loved it. Small and local boutique type rather than large chain.

you're not likely to find much in the £100/night bracket in the centrum area unless you don't mind a shared bathroom
further afield is more likely (~3+ miles from dam square)... have a look at hotels further away that are within a few mins walk of a tram or metro stop, and you'll be fine we got back a couple of weeks ago, and you were looking at £130 a night for most places, or £150+ a night for something that wasnt just a double bed in a tiny room. we ended up with a loft apartment on airbnb ("little dutch") that was ~£820 for 5 nights because the cheapest double room with private bathroom was coming in at around £750 anyway *edit* for stuff to do have a read of this thread: https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/sho...9&postcount=15 Edited at 09:02 AM. |

Thanks for that. I didn't realise hotels were so expensive in the centre, but I'm finding that out. The flights only cost us £60 return, but as it'll be my 7th trip away this year I need to keep costs down

yeah, we had a proper shock when we saw prices!
decided we were going (for the first time in 10 years) so just booked flights without checking hotel prices. turns out the places we used to stay in were nearly three times the price they were 10 years ago! |

Amsterdam ID Aparthotel looks decent, and has a kitchenette. Five minutes by train to the centre and free breakfast.

Excited about Disney
|
We stayed in the Lancaster Hotel a couple of weeks ago. Around £125 per night in a small double. It was clean and modern. Tram stop directly outside.
The Zoo was across the road. We could hear sea lions, exotic birds etc. Nice friendly bistro across road also for breakfast, drinks etc. |

If you want cheap, we stayed in the Bulldog. It's in the red light district bug really central. We had their "best" room. It was cheap and clean. Technically it's s hostel but it was ok.
Could be tempted to go back for the right price. We booked direct. bulldoghotel/ |
