Mobile Whale Watching - best time of day to go?

Just about to book our Whale Watching Trip for whilst we are in Monterey. Is there a better time of the day to book for to maximise Whale sightings or does it not matter and down to luck on the day?

We went with Monterey Bay Whale watching, early and it worked out well for us.

A highly reccomended trip that yielded sightings of 10x Humpbacks, 2 x Grays, 200 plus Risso's, Sealions, 2 x Albatross and Sea Otters.

For us, the key was that we were on our way back to port when the Skipper received info re the Greys. He diverted and overan the allotted time by 25 minutes or so in order that we could see them. Pretty good and motivated for a guy who probably goes out 3 times a day, every day.

You will find a report and some images on my trip report 'California N to South at Easter'. It is on page 1.
