Buying ticket via universal website

My son is visiting universal just for 1 day, looking at getting the 1 day 2 park ticket directly from universal website but can anyone confirm if this is an actual hard ticket or whether it would be a voucher to be changed on arrival? He usually just buys at the park but the last couple of years its taken an unbelievably long time so trying to avoid it.

Bought one for the Hollywood Universal park and have a print at home ticket with a bar code that tells me to head straight to the turnstile (with photo id)

when you buy from universal you have 3 options

- mobile ticket. You can have the ticket added to your wallet on the universal orlando app on your smartphone (will require photo ID at the turnstile)

- print at home : you print your ticket on an A4 sheet of paper. then go direct to the turnstiles (may also require photo ID)

- will call : you receive a flash code, and a confirmation number. when at the parks, you'll need to go to an automated will call kiosk, swipe the credit card that was used for purchase (mandatory) for identification purposes, then enter the code on your confirmation email. The machine will issue a hard ticket

those are the 3 delivery options, all 3 of which are free of charge.

uk photo driving license may be accepted in conjunction with a photo of the passport on the mobile phone, or photocopy

if you go the print at home way, print 2, and store one your wallet where it might not get wet if you do the water rides.
ticket will be required if you ride the hogwarts express (needs a park to park ticket) or upon park re-entry if you choose to walk between parks instead of taking the potter train

Also have a look on undercovertourist to compare prices. You can have the ticket mailed to you or sent as an E-Ticket from them.

Looked at them but its cheaper direct with Universal - $170 plus tax. He's always bought it at the gate but last year it took forever, people getting to the desk and then discussing what type of ticket they wanted. Gonna buy in advance so at least he can just go straight in.

UK driving licence is more than sufficient. Have done day passes and annual passes and DL has always been sufficient to confirm identity.
