Walmart PRICES!

We arrived Thursday pm, granted we haven’t been here 12yrs, went to do the big shop yesterday, thought we’d go to Walmart, as we thought it would be cheap and cheerful, well, fresh bread 3 to 4 dollars a loaf, apples loose 1 dollar each, tomatoes 3 dollars, cleaning and washing at least twice the price as home, pizzas 3 times the price, list goes on. We nipped into publix last night, better quality and slightly cheaper. We will check out the Aldi and super target later this week. No more Walmart for us.

The increases started to go out of control from about 2015.

Hence, the mad rush to book Disney onsite with free dining plan. Gone are the days of cheap villa holidays

We noticed the price increases last year. With the $ getting stronger against the £ it Florida isn’t the reasonable holiday as it was in previous years. To be honest I can not see it getting any better over the next few years.

$6 for a subway meal deal
$9 for a Big Mac meal

All plus tax

We like a bit of salad to break up the usual fare. Probably better to go to sweet tomatoes have a meal, load up again and ask for a doggie bag.

Cheaper to eat out imho, we stayed 3 weeks last Aug, fancied a meal in and it cost us $50 from Target, 2nd time we fancied a meal in we still have the salad dressings and toppings so only cost us $35

Taco Bell are still cheap, 4 burrito's, 2 fries and 2 drinks, came to under $15

CiCi's pizza is cheap and cheerful

Sweet Toms with vouchers are still a good buy

Groupon etc are worth keeping an eye on as the big supermarkets are ridiculous in pricing, though look for value brands over big names for a small saving as there's usually a like for like on most things.

Cici's always on groupon - $10 for 2 people, $20 for 4. Add in a discount coupon and you're eating ridiculously cheap.

Just to say, fresh bread in the US is not a popular thing so is often quite expensive. You can get wonderloafs still fairly cheap (ready packaged bread). I agree though groceries are not cheap in the US like they used to be. I think most of this is because Americans tend to buy a lot of ready made food and therefore when people are buying fruit seperately etc then its very much more expensive. What we found was things like ready made salads were a lot cheaper than the ingredients needed to make it. It tends to be household items and souvenirs that are still cheap in Wallmart rather than actual food.

Walmart does daily fresh baked bread for $1 in the bakery section. It's the shelf safe bread that is expensive on the bread aisle.

Like everywhere, it's best to buy fruit and veg that's in season and local. The cost of living is expensive here but you can get some produce at reasonable prices.
