Driving in Quebec

I know that there are a few people on here that enjoy visiting Quebec. I was wondering if anyone can give us any tips regarding driving there. We will only have a car for part of our stay in Quebec City then we will be driving up to Saguenay. I suppose one of my main concerns is the road signs will be in French. Other than that is there anything we really need to know?

I have driven a lot in Quebec! It isn’t a problem at all. If I remember correctly all road signs are in both languages.

Round Quebec City it is busy as you would expect - and I wouldn't drive in the old city but it really isn’t problematic at all!

Thank you that is very helpful. It is good to know that road signs are in both languages I had read somewhere that they are only in French.

You shouldn't have any difficulty with road signs.
It may be convenient to alter your speedometer to kph if it's not already.
You won't need a car in Montreal.
It could be worthwhile finding a parking garage on the outskirts near a Metro stop to avoid paying for parking in Montreal.
Depending on when you go you could save money parking in Longueuil or somewhere.
You could consider finding a hotel along the Metro.
Montreal hotels can be expensive.
Never leave anything in your vehicle, especially if it has US plates.

Thank you I will make sure we don't leave anything in the car. We are not going to Montreal but we are staying 5 nights in Quebec City and 3 in Chicoutimi and we will be visiting Saguenay.

If you haven't booked your QC hotel yet they vary enormously by price depending on location.
We really liked Courtyard Marriott right opposite city wall, but outside so better value.
It also had a discounted validation at the parking garage across the road.
I know you haven't asked for an opinion but three days would be sufficient at QC for most visitors, possibly even two days.

I spent a week in Quebec City in April - my trip report is in the photo trip section (I keep meaning to do the index )

Edited to add it was my second trip to QC and I found plenty to keep me busy both times! Both times were for a week. First time we had a car, second I was on my own so just used public transport and walked!

I'm in Quebec City at the moment and we're driving to Montreal in a few hours.
We arrived via Maine and have found the driving fine. No issues. There are plenty of parking locations near the old town. My tip would be to use Parkopedia to identify them.
