Help! Holiday falling apart
Holiday has been planned and booked for a year and we are due to go in just over 5 weeks. My boss has just told me he is declining my leave which was agreed and confirmed last year.
We have spent thousands, of which almost all is none refundable and our travel insurance have said the reason isn't valid for a claim. I can't go into to much detail as I would break social media company rules and have created this account to get help but stay annom. I work in a team of 3 for a large company and 1 of us always needs to be onsite during working shifts. If for any reason one of us wasn't onsite then the company would not be able to run legally. One of the team is off sick for the next few months and the other has just resigned. So in a month it will be just myself for a short while until a replacement starts. This goes over our holiday. My boss said he has no choice and legally is allowed to do this. He was nice but said his hands are tied. He also said he understands and the company will reimburse my flights only but nothing else. We have car, flights, hotels and several attractions booked. The family will not go without me for obvious reasons. Very lost as what to do. |

What a horrible situation.
I haven't had any experience with this but one thought would be that you highlight to your boss that they should have temporary cover for the individual who is off sick. This may give the cover that you need in order to go off. Are you a member of a union? Do they have any advice? |

I would call ACAS and find out what your rights are.

And what exactly would they do if you got sick?! Surely they must have a contingency plan...

I would definitely seek legal advice on this and speak with HR. You have rights here. Your leave has been authorised a long time ago and they cannot no renege on that.

How important is the job to you? Either hand your notice in or threaten it and see how it goes.

I would call ACAS to know your legal rights.
As far as I would be concerned, they'd have to reimburse the lot to you if they expected you to cancel.

Is there any possibility of moving your holiday?
