We have stayed at Jockey Club and Carriage House both with no resort fee. They are condo style apartments with kitchen. Casino Royale dont charge either but I have always found the rates quite high for the hotel it is so in my opinion you are better off with a reasonable hotel and to pay the resort fee.

Mostly off strip places like Tahiti village don’t have resort fees
Near to the strip you’ve got Carriage house , jockey club, Desert Rose, ( basically the timeshare suite type places that aren’t big hotels ) , but I wouldn’t be surprised To see those start charging now the Elara does .. Casino Royals is a best western that doesn’t charge resort fees , location wise is fab opposite the mirage and it’s usually a good price , cheaper than say Bally’s / Harrahs once you factor in their resort fees . |

Possible this is due to current demands from OTAs, in particular Booking.com, to be paid commission on resort fees (part of the reason for their existence is for hotels to avoid paying commission on part of their income). If the hotels are giving in on this point, some or all of the commission cost will be passed to the consumer in the form of increased fees.

The resort fees are not just in Vegas either they are all over the US and the West Coast so its an important thing to be aware of for people on this forum in general. In cities like San Francisco and San Diego they will call it an “urban fee” or similar. When we were looking for a hotel in San Diego almost all the chains were charging these fees - Omni, Hilton, Westin. If you are not aware to look out for them you could end up with a big bill at the end of a West Coast roadtrip. This is our third summer on the west coast and it’s getting harder to avoid the fees. You can’t trust the price you see listed on Expedia, Booking etc until you click through to the final page and see the fees due on arrival. That’s probably the idea too, look cheaper than the competition on the list page, then tack on so many fees you end up more expensive.
Does anyone know if this site is any way accurate for Vegas? It would be useful to have a list. resortfeechecker/ |

Well if that were the case every hotel booking etc use would be charging resort fees ?
I love Vegas go a lot but this is just typical of strip hotels greed . Resort fees never existed till about 2011 then they were brought in and not too bad . Since then they’ve become silly .. add on parking fees and it’s $60/65 a night in extra charges all for stuff that was previously free . |

Yes I agree. We paid $24 at Zephyr in San Fran and it was $60 pn to park. San Diego we paid $32 at Hilton. Cant remember what we paid in Phoenix but we did pay. Paid think it was $25 pn in Miami night before our cruise. Just booked Toronto and thats $25 pn. Last time we stayed in Kissimmee we paid a resort fee too. They were condo style rooms up at Lake beuna Vista. Paid about $25 pn in Longbeach. Seems to be the norm for a lot of hotels now. I dont mind if they are up front about it and you are aware before you go, then I just add it on to price of the room. I dont just assume the price you see is the price you will pay

We have been a lot to Vegas over the years and how we holiday there has certainly changed from the first time, with resort and parking fees being one of the reasons.
In the future we will only go as part of a trip elsewhere on the west coast. We went twice last year, once for 2 weeks with a trip out for 3 nights and once for 1 night as we were in Palm Springs. The 1 night we stayed at the Paris and didn’t mind the fees as it was only 1 night. The 2 weeks, we originally booked the nyny but changed it to the desert rose as I really grudged the extra fees. If I think something is a rip off I’m just not paying it anymore as it will just annoy me. My friend was with us as well so between the 2 rooms the resort fees and parking was about $80 plus tax a night x 14. Too much! |
