I always avoid policies underwritten by Mapfre due to problems we had with them.

We use AXA, there were 3 options I think and I chose the top one for the policy.
We had to go to hospital with our grown up daughter and AXA were terrific, couldn’t fault them.

We were with axa through Lloyd’s Bank. I never saw final bill but I had an ambulance, CT scan, emergency partial hysterectomy and biopsy follow up on a ovarian cyst. 24 hour stay in hospital and follow up. I can’t imagine the bill would have been very pretty. All I paid was $12 for the prescription I left with.

Another vote for Nat West travel insurance, which I get with my bank account.
I was ill a few years ago and they arranged for a doctor to come to the hotel room (I travel solo and didn't feel well enough to go to the hospital). The visit, tests, medication and confirmation that I could fly home, were covered by Nat West up front, I didn't have to pay a penny. They even called me a few hours later to see how I was and whether I needed them to rearrange my flight etc. I couldn't fault them. |
