I suppose if you go often then pick up one from Walmart.
Lots on here 'rent' them off UK based E Bay sellers. About £15 for 2 weeks. Then you post it back - signed for!

you can simply download US maps for a fee & off you go

ive got a tomtom one with US maps , line guidance is a handy feature in the US of A where the off/on ramps are not always instantly apparant

either rent off ebay, or use a mapping app on your phone. just beware of data charges for that (and make sure your phone is on charge when in use!)

theres ways to avoid charges on some apps (nokia home for example) by preloading a map and not using live services, but others that use live data (waze) wont be much use.

if you have three feel at home though (or use their sim) you can get round these issues.

but easiest way is to probably rent. but i cant really help you with that.

on a related note, check out my satnav POIs - https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/sho...d.php?t=898832

We bought one a couple of years ago which was around 12 months old from a Dibber and paid around £40 for it. We find it extremely useful (esp in California) as you can search for local restaurants etc

We had planned on picking one up from Walmart

Navmii works well from the feedback on here. Just buy a cheap mount from eBay and a long USB (suitable to your phone) to keep it charged.

We had an old Garmin and bought the USA map from eBay on SD card. That was over 10 years ago. We still use it. Some of the roads have changed but it's good enough and all our points of interest are in it.
