And I agree with you regular fuel will run fine and give slightly better consumption.
A T&C would give about 20 as well as would an Impala, surprsingly a Mustang will be slightly better an a large SUV slightly worse a basic will probably only do 30 a Fusion however may get 40+ due to Ford's tech as with the Mustang shutting down cylinders when not need old style small block V6's and V8's are inherently uneconomic where as a modern engine is inherently economic.
Most likely first refill was due to like me not necking tank but getting somewhere near as gauge will show full.

It's pence anyhow and unless you are driving up to the Carolinas or elsewhere it's not worth losing sleep over

Good to know I only got a focus this year so doubt it will be flexi fuel

I always drive around in 2nd gear the fuel is so cheap. With the windows open and the aircon full blast. Sometimes I even take the handbrake off

What an earth did you have ? I thought even hummers got 8 mpg ?

No it's not the filling up of fuel in the us that hurts , even if it uses more than expected ... It's the coming home & filling our own ######s back up & suddenly you are a maths genius & have worked out what that would have cost on holiday 😭😭😭

When I rent a car in the US I follow these rules:

1 - Get one with the biggest engine possible.
2 - Don't give a stuff about MPG
3 - Put the cheapest gas possible into it.

Thats me!
Always like a Cadillac saloon which aren't that great on fuel and I couldn't give a hoot about the fuel consumption!
Some years ago I did a West Coast trip and drove a few miles short of 4000 miles in 5 weeks. Fuel was the least of my worries

For those worrying now - My first trip in 1976 I had a Pontiac Grand Prix with a 400hp engine. Now that drank fuel like you have never seen!

We had a flexifuel Focus in 2013 ... least economical car we've had in the US.

Bring back the PT Cruiser
