Katz Deli E Houston St.

Wednesday. 6 July

Yes the deli from When Harry Met Sally and Man V Food fame.
It's off the tourist track and took a bit of effort to locate

Jamie had Philly Cheesesteak

Nick had a very flat cheeseburger

Connor had a pretty well stuffed Turkey sandwich , the meat was so moist. We expected this to be really dry but it wasn't at all

Andy and I had plain hot dogs

I had a lovely iced coffee.

With a beer and 3 cokes it came to $80

Outback Steakhouse W 23rd Street

I know, a chain restaurant in New York, but don't judge. We had a slightly fractious afternoon , heat and tiredness were all at a play today so we opted for somewhere close to the hotel

I had a delicious blackberry martini. Nom nom

And a cup of baked potato soup

Followed by the small plate of coconut shrimp

Connor had 1/2 rack of ribs. He said they were nice but cold . Why didn't he say so at the time !

You can just see Andy's sirloin with mash in the background but we weren't on the best terms so I didn't take a pic !

Nick had a cheeseburger for a change

I had the mini strawberry shortcake dessert , it's like trifle in a jar

And Nick had the mini Oreo parfait

I can't find a pic of the bill it will be somewhere .. But I know it was $95

We loved Katzs and its on the list for December. We had a day where we just travelled about seeing things randomly like the Ghostbusters fire station and the Friends building etc so Kats fitted in well on that day. We had some sort of family platter that they recommended, it was so yummy, the meat is so soft and juicy.
We also had a few problems finding it, it was so worth it though.
Enjoy DC, would love to go.x

Oh I love Katz's! Haven't been there for years so definitely need to make a return visit whenever we make it back to NYC.

Yikes, Ellen's was expensive! I do love me some tater tots though!

Fat Pete's Barbecue 3407 Connecticut Avenue NW

We had planned to go to the Cleveland Park Sports Bar so got a cab there to discover it was closed ! Noooooo. It had been listed on Trip Advisor as one of the best sports bars and we wanted to watch the Germany v France game.

Happily, this place was only 3 doors away and served fab food and had the game on.

Disaster averted. Just as well as were starving after our train journey from NY.

It reminded us of 4Rivers.

The boys all had pulled pork sandwiches with waffle fries.
These were the saltiest fries ever ... But they loved them

Andy had the brisket platter with mash and boston beans

I had the pulled pork platter with mac'n'cheese and cornbread, with apple honey butter( omg, that was amazing)

I had the Cookie Monster sundae .. With cream

Connor had it without

The sodas and water were served in jars. I had a lovely glass of Pinot Grigio and Andy had a few beers

$140 after tip.

Definitely worth the trek from the hotel ( about 25 minute walk)

Ah, we didn't do any movie/tv spotting stuff , maybe next time! It's a shame we were so hot and bothered when we got here otherwise we might have made different choices . The sandwiches were huge but we were too hot to have anything so mahoosive. The Turkey was literally melt in your mouth , delicious. Off to see DC sights today ... Thunderstorm permitting

We thought Ellen's was expensive too for average food but it was about the experience. I wouldn't go again though.

Sounds like you have a tale or two to store up for the full trippie then!

That blackberry martini looks lush, as does the strawberry shortcake. Definitely my kind of drink and dessert.

I found it hard to find places in DC to suit all of us. Hope these help! The vino was $7.27. Pretty much on a par with other places. My cocktail at Clydes was $8 tonight. We have had a good time. Heading off to Orlando tomorrow night. It Will be a rest

Tune Inn Diner, 331 Pennsylvania Ave SE

This place was featured as a certified Dive on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives.

We caught the metro to Capitol South and it was a short walk to Pennsylvania Avenue

Gaston had clearly hung out here !

Nick had the Beer Battered burger , which is deep fried ... ,

Connor had chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich

I had corned beef hash, home fries and eggs.

My camera was really playing up so this is the only pic I have of Andy's Philly Cheesesteak sub and Jamie's Tuna Mayo Toastie

The toastie close up

Bill is a bit blurry but $72 before tip.

It was ok. We'd just been round Arlington , were totally sweaty bears and starving so worked fine for us. Not fine dining though. Definitely greasy spoon. But it was friendly and fast service.
