I'd love to do Xmas Eve boxes - but we have no young grandchildren!
We do have grand nieces who we're very close to, so the elves leave treats (xmas crafts, choc novelties) under our tree for each time we see them in December.
Our adult DD still gets a Dec 1st treat - advent, xmas jumper etc. and DH gets an advent.

That’s really nice. I never heard of them when my son was young and he is fourty!

My grandaughter has her mums old Christmas stocking which was hand knit by her grandma ( so grandaughters great grandma).

I love family Christmas traditions and freely admit to going overboard. But I like to make the most of every Christmas , we also make sure that our grandaughter donates toys to charities before Christmas and we do also.

Growing up we never had much money, I think that influences me as well.

I admit to going overboard as well , we had them here last night for fireworks and a bbq and the younger ones overnight so parents all went out to celebrate our 42 weding anniversary and we had more fun with the kids

I only remember them from when our grandaughter was born, 6 years ago, no recollection from when our son was young

No I'm sure my eldest grandchildren didn't have them either. Have they become a thing with social media maybe?

Mine didn’t have them either (22 &23) and I’d never heard of them until I read on here (surprising as I love Christmas AND I’m a shopaholic ). I looked into it and it started in Germany with their tradition of exchanging gifts on Christmas Eve. Apparently it started becoming a thing over here in the 2000’s and in particular 2014 was shown as the year it caught on properly

Christmas Eve boxes ?
Christmas advent calendar gifts ?
Christmas stockings ?
Christmas day itself ?

Where does it stop . The list of things people are putting in their Christmas Eve boxes would be more than i may buy for Christmas day lol

We have never given anything other than Christmas day .
( Other than the basic chocolate advent calendars)
This was us before having our youngest 🤣
Now its an advent calendar (and they aren’t cheap), new Christmas pj’s & fluffy socks on the 1st December
The naughty elf throughout December
Christmas Eve box filled with stuff on Christmas eve
Then the big man leaves a pile of presents each on Christmas day.
My husband thinks I ve lost the plot 🙈 maybe I have 🤣🤣

I whole heartedly agree with you, I also admit to going overboard but I want to make the most of Christmas and give the children wonderful memories.
My parents were extremely poor when I was growing up and it does definitely influence me too.
I also always said that my children will never go to bed crying because they are starving like my sister and I did.
🥰🥰

I agree and would never ever want a child to be hungry or needy but the great memories I have of Christmas are not about gifts they are abound spending time with people I love and cherish.

I remember the games we played, always a game we called walnuts, we laughed and laughed. I remember playing charads and my lovely mum lying on the floor trying on act out 'Born Free'

I remember the joy of giving, making little gifts for my family and drawing/crafting Christmas cards. My grandchildren enjoy making crackers not bought ones. They create advent calenders.

The children and grandchildren all take part in the cooking, they love the walk after Christmas lunch. Those are their memories.

What I'm trying to say its not about what we spend, how many times we can give things, memories are about the special moments.

Oh and I agree with this too, my grandaughter always makes cards for her friends ( and us) I love the time being together, and even though we had an amazing trip to Florida and did some amazing things, the best part of it was us all spending so much time together.
It was so hard saying goodbye at the airport when we went our separate ways.

I also love the build up in December, her school play and Carol service at the church, the Christmas panto, her dance show etc

I feel so grateful to be able to attend all of them with being retired.

But I also love seeing her little face at Christmas, she still believes in Santa and I’m making the most of that while it lasts!
