I will probably set our table after dinner on Christmas Eve as breakfast will be croissants/bacon and sausage sandwiches while we are opening presents.
I got a gorgeous new tablecloth and napkins from John Lewis last year that is deep green with a red holly pattern. I have gold candlesticks with red ribbon bows and decorate the table with holly from the garden. I love doing my Christmas table too.

I’ll do the same. I love doing my Christmas table. I also get all my serving dishes ready, many of which belonged to my late grandmother, all lined up her huge hostess trays. Love using her stuff at Christmas as I remember it from when I was little .

Love doing the Christmas Table, even tho only two of us now & the table seats 8!. I have red table cloth & bought the Holly Table Runner from John Lewis for this year. Then scatter with table cloth with litle gold stars We have normal breakfast but with a glass of Pink Champagne, then walk the dog b4 I do too much as a lot of prepping done the evening b4. We eat around 2pm usually then watch the Kings speech & DH gives out the few presents to me & the dog & I give him a couple of pressies. I don't like surprises for myself but I love doing them so DH never knows what he is getting & I buy me a present usually chocolate, and wrap it & buy something if there's anything I want after Christmas as it's my birthday in January so I will get whatever I want then if I can think of anything. I'd rather go out for a good meal or go away for a few days together plus dog than anything.
I am blessed in that all I truly want for Christmas is to be with my DH & dog in front of the fire watching TV after eating a lovely meal.
Very Happy Christmas Every One & Happy Healthy 2025

Setting the table is one of the highlights for me every year. I get to do it twice as we celebrate two Christmas meals - a Swedish buffet style ”julbord” on the 24th and the traditional turkey on 25th. Only 4 of us this year - eldest son away.

I normally use different tablecloths for the two days. Last year a natural linen one for the 24th and a red with holly pattern for the 25th. This year I’ll see if I just do the one set - the red one I think as its more Christmassy and also hides any minor stains from the first meal better 😀

I have the Spode ”Christmas tree” set which I love. I also have some crocheted placemats my grandmother made which goes well with the linen cloth.
This is what the 24th looked like last year:

Don’t have a good picture of 25th for some reason but here is you can see the tablecloth at least:

These are gorgeous, I have a gold table cloth and red runner, generally when the table isn't in use I have a poinsettia, gold roses and a large bowl of fruit on it but for the meal everything has to be moved for the serving plates and dishes . Maybe we are just greedier than most people.

If you are greedy we are even greedier. I’ve given up trying to fit the serving dishes on the dining table. Instead I lay the food out on the kitchen table then people serve themselves and bring their plates in to the dining room. I only put gravy and condiments on the dining table.

I guess if I made the amount of food we actually eat it would fit, but I was raised to believe that undercatering is a crime against one’s family and guests. Nothing gets wasted mind you, we love the leftovers.

I've got 18 on Boxing Day... my mum's coming round on Christmas Eve to help set the table. We're like you, Sue, can't have too much on the table as there's so many dishes 🙈😂. But I've got loads of little felt holly leaves, mini baubles, and Christmassy 'sprinkles'. I've got some little domed light up figures with Christmas scenes inside, and some tiny Christmas tree string lights. I've got loads of Spode Christmas Tree crockery, but not enough for 18! So the 'best' china will come out of the sideboard! I've got some lovely Villeroy and Boch serving platters, some Pampered Chef plates, Sarah Miller platters and cutlery. And 2 canteens of extra cutlery will come out from under the stairs. I've got a set of 12 Christmas glasses, and some extra random ones... and a big Snowman juice container with a tap on it for the kids. I've got a couple of small boxes of Christmas Jokes that are like cracker jokes that will be read out... it's basically a memory game as we have the same boxes every year 😂. I've got a lovely table runner with Robins on, which won't stretch the whole way but will cover a fair bit, and I usually get a couple those 'feel like linen' disposable table cloths from Sainsbury's, usually white with snowflakes or similar.

It sounds like a right mish mash 🙈😂 but will look festive and fun 🎄❄️⛄️
