Advice on Virgin hand luggage only and seats

Hi

I’ve seen a few prices on Skyscanner for Virgin which are hand baggage only. I know you can add hold cases on for around £90 return which is fine - but I was wondering what happens about seats? Because it’s the cheaper only ticket does this mean we couldn’t choose our seats until check in? Or would it allow us to choose our seats as soon as we’ve booked?

We booked economy light with virgin, and paid for exit row seats one way, really expensive mind you at £50 each, but it is possible to do even on the lowest fare.

We were economy light and couldn’t book seats at all. We were on a Virgin plane but booked via Delta so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
