Should the kitchen sink be beneath a window?
Following on from the threads recently on new kitchens and worktops, ours is in need of a refresh! We always have problems with the laminate tops and the joints in them for all the corners we have. One solution would be to move the sink, that would give us a longer bit of straight worktop and any joints would be away from possible water damage.
Thing is, I can't really remember seeing many houses where the sink isn't under a window, it doesn't bother me, but I wonder what would happen when we come to sell - might is be a deal breaker? Your thoughts please! |

Wouldn’t bother me - I have a dishwasher so don’t spend ages at the sink . For me a dealbreaker would be no space for a dishwasher !

Ours isn’t! It used to be but when we changed it we moved it to where it was more practical!

Mine isn't, it's in a large island in the middle of the kitchen.
It was under the window in the previous 3 houses I have lived in. For some reason I don't like the sink to be under a front facing window, it was in our previous house, but at least we only had farm land in front of our old house.

In theory the sink can be wherever you want it - plumbing and drainage considerations usually come in to play.

I don’t have a window in my kitchen so the sink is definitely not beneath one.
Where there is a window people may expect the sink to be in front of it but no reason it has to be, although your plumbing may be easier if it is at least on an outside wall |

We have 3 outside walls for the kitchen so plumbing not a problem! Great to hear your thoughts!

I’m this day and age it doesn’t matter, she can get all the natural light from a simulation bulb.
As long as the chain is long enough to reach the ironing board and cooker you can put the sink wherever you would prefer to watch her do the dishes. |

i used to work with a bloke who put his sink unit on wheels/extended hoses so it could be moved away from the window and wheeled across the kitchen, reason being his wife like to watch tv while doing the dishes/preparing veg etc and the sink had to move so she could see the TV...
