Claire uk -ear piercing qu - Update #19

Hi

I have one ear pierced twice and would like the other pierced twice to match.

Not had my ears pierced for many years.

Will they use a 2 pack and pierce one ear twice at the same time?

I have found some nice ones on their site.

Also do you need the 3 week aftercare lotion if you are happy to keep the ear rings in for 6 weeks.

Does anyone have any tips on how to care for the newly pierced ear?

Thanks

My dd got her ear pierced at the beginning of December for Xmas.
Firstly we chose not to get them done at Claire’s due to a bad reputation.
The cleaning we had a solution to clean around the earring front and back, three times a day, and then turn the earrings at least three whole turns. This was for 6 weeks.
She’s at the point we can change earrings but they were a little sore when I did it so we are leaving them in for another couple of weeks.

I wouldn’t get your ears pierced at Claire’s. I’d find a properly trained piercer who uses needles. Anything else is going to cause trauma to your ear.

A lobe piercing takes at least 6 weeks to heel so Claire’s selling a “quick” healing lotion is ridiculous and unethical in my opinion

You should clean your new piercing twice a day with a saline solution. Front and back. I’ve actually always heard you should never twist your new earring as it will irritate the wound (and can actually trap hair within the wound).

Go to a tattooist, absolutely do not touch Claire's.

Please please please don’t go to Claire’s, find your local tattoo and piercing shop and get your ear pierced with a needle. The equipment and location will be much more sanitary and the staff should be better trained!

I read a lot of negative comments about Claire’s but we had a great experience there.

Dd had hers done 2 years ago, I was very pleased with the time they took to make sure we were happy with positioning and to reassure dd.

The girl said that although they do the quick heal solution she still recommended to leave in at least 6 weeks.

We cleaned front and back 3 times daily giving a full turn each time. We made sure to give the cotton pad a bit of a squeeze so that plenty of solution was left on the earring and ear lobe.

Dds healed beautifully with no issues at all so I’m happy to recommend them.

I think the key is to make sure they are kept really clean and turned. I know someone whose dd had lots of issued and had to have one earring removed at a&e as the back had healed over the butterfly. This piercing was done at a local shop that doesn’t use a gun and has a good reputation. Unfortunately her dd was not good at cleaning and looking after them which caused the issue.

Can’t help with your question regarding piercing only 1 ear though.

Had my ears done at Claires for Christmas when I was 12. They can do both at the same time because mine were done like that, although it was with 2 members of staff each with a single gun because they load the cartridges in.

I was certainly encouraged to keep mine in for the full 6 weeks and had very few problems. My mum was diligent about me cleaning them at least twice a day and doing the turning thing. That said, if I had them pierced again (they healed up because I didn't wear earrings for a long time) I would go to a tattooist.

As others have said, find somewhere that pierces with a needle, not a gun. Piercing guns are made of plastic and so cannot be sterilised in an autoclave. Also, a gun causes blunt force trauma to push a blunt stud through the skin. A needle is extremely sharp and slices through the skin, pushing tissue to the side to allow a stud to be fitted.

My daughter had her ears pierced at Claire’s a couple of years ago and she fainted between piercings (she was 16 at the time) but the piercer was happy to plough on when she came round?!? It took months for the piercings to heal, she followed the cleaning instructions to the letter, bought the soloution and was very careful.

Since then she has had another couple of piercings done by a professional piercer and they healed in no time without having to purchase over priced healing lotions (she was advised to clean her piercing with salt dissolved in cooled boiled water).

Dont go to claires. My dd worked there a few years ago. "Trained" to pierce ears, she would be first in line to say go to a tattooist etc.
