I help in a local hospice charity shop, and we get some really fabulous 'only worn for a night' dresses which are sold for £25 - 40. They are like new - wedding dresses too for £75 - 150!
We've now opened a 'Bridal Loft' for dresses and accessories - which looks like a high class formal dress shop.

How far in advance do most people buy? DD is currently in year 10 but already looking for ideas so this thread is helpful.

We bought in the Jan , so 5 Months before the prom . That way we got to pick from the new season of dresses , which arrived just a few days before we went to pick one .

We bought last weekend for June this year. There were several others doing the same. One shop we went to you had to make an appointment another you could just walk in but if there was another child from the same school you had to wait until they had left. The dress takes about 12 weeks to arrive.

Our eldest’s prom dress 7 years ago was £250 and the youngest has literally just picked hers for this years prom and it was £300.

Went went a few places and that was kinda the average price. You can of course go on and on but the ones at this price were stunning. Lots of her friends had already got theirs

My friend secured her daughter’s recently and it was about £500 -£600 I think?
I was horrified! 😱 Looks amazing though
So glad I have a boy although I don’t think we’re getting off lightly! He showed me a Vivienne Westwood suit he likes the other day! 😱

My daughters will have 3 proms each.

At end of year 8 (we are middle school system)

End of Year 11 and end of year 13.

So they have had less expensive dresses as they have three.

we’ve had two from
Next, a 50s style one of Ebay and a short ChiChi dress.

None of them cost over £100. And some of them were quite cheap.

Katie did buy some expensive shoes which she has worn multiple times. She was happy to spend more on her shoes than the dress and then chose a shorter dress to show them off.

Oldest Dd dress was £300 grandma bought it no way would I pay that 😬 2nd Dd dress was £65 and she was just as happy as her older sister with her dress 🤷🏻 I wouldn’t pay over £140 and that was her budget I don’t own a dress worth more than that so that was my rational 😃
