Help please I haven't got a clue.
We have never been on a cruise but would like to try one. We are a couple in our early fifties with a daughter who will be 15 in April. I have found a cruise that I like the sound of. It is 14 nights on the emerald princess next August. Starting in Rome and ending in Barcelona. I am not really sure what is on board for a teenager. Would we be better with another cruise line? What can teenagers do in the evening? Is there entertainment for families? It will be the first time we have gone away with just one child she usually has at least one of her older siblings to keep her company. Do you think it is something most teenagers will enjoy? She is fairly easy to please and loves swimming and sightseeing. I am overthinking this already and that is before I try to understand the dining options etc. Any help would be appreciated.

We took our 15 year old on a cruise last summer. Same circumstances, the first holiday without our eldest daughter.
She did try the teen club but found it a bit quiet, We mostly relaxed. Did some reading, she swam. We went to all the evening shows. Ate at various restaurants. I don’t know what we did exactly but we weren’t bored and we had a nice time. She never complained about lack of things to do. We generally did sightseeing in the morning. Relaxed in the afternoon and then show / meal in evening. We were on p&o Brittannia |

Thank you for the reply. It's good to hear your daughter had a good time and it was similar circumstances. The more I think about it the more I think as long as there is a pool it doesn't really matter. It's just someone said that princess cruises attract the older crowd and Royal Caribbean have more fun things for teenagers. I really fancy the itinerary on the princess cruise though so I might just go for it.

Don’t forget that Med itineraries are very port intensive so your time on board is actually quite limited ie not a lot of time to get bored. We’ve been on the Emerald four times and the facilities are great. It’s true Princess attracts an older demographic but Med cruises attract a ‘slightly’ younger crowd. From our observations, teenagers seem happiest when they have others to hang around with that they get on with - and somewhere to hang out, rather than lots of planned activities. The ‘teen club’ seems mainly a place to do the introductions. There are lots a family orientated activities - mainly of a silly games type, that are fun if your DD will throw herself into such things. She might enjoy the Movies Under the Stars as well.

Thank you I did think that the fact there are plenty of port days will mean little time to be bored. Fantastic to hear you have sailed on the emerald four times.
