I think in each destination we all have a ‘must see or do’. For example in San Fran going to Alcatraz is a must for my DS and myself but in LA seeing the Hollywood sign and Santa Monica are a must for DD. OH is happy as long as he plays golf once a week 😆. If we can tick off the ‘musts’ then anything else is a bonus.
I’ve already reiterated to the kids that if they don’t fancy doing something then I’m more than happy for them to stay in the hotel/accommodation so if they want a lie in but I fancy a stroll along the beach or one of the trails in Yosemite then that’s no problem. This year when we were at MNSSHP my OH and DS didn’t want to stay for the fireworks and rides after so they got an Uber back to the villa and left me and DD with the car. We had a blast! I agree having flexibility is the best way
You will have a blast

Alcatraz is still the best tour I have ever been on by miles and I went in 1992 when your tour was given on Sony Walkmans.

One other thing that is very good but not sure if you can fit it in is the Winchester Mystery House in SAN Jose

Ok so back to the drawing board. I really didn't want to drop a day off of Monterey or rush down the PCH so I'm now dropping a night in Anaheim. It does now mean I've only got 1 day for both Disney parks but as I'm the only one who wants to go I had to compromise! New itinerary now looks like this, what do you think?
San Fran - 3 nights
Yosemite - 3 nights
Monterey - 3 nights
Solvang - 1 night
Oceanside - 7 nights
Anaheim - 2 nights
LA - 2 nights
