2 weeks with the family... are we crazy?! Day 11

10 Oct

We had a slightly later start this morning and then took Dad to Home Depot for a couple of hours where he spent a lot of time looking at tools. He eventually decided on buying some and we managed to escape the store.

Rob and I then went to Millers Ale House (at Championsgate) for lunch, this was our first visit! Rob had a burger and I had a chicken salad of some type, it was really a really tasty lunch and good value. As we left the restaurant there was a mega thunderstorm so we sheltered until we could make a run to the car.

The evening Rob and I were heading to the Magic Kingdom as we had a reservation for the Happily Ever After dessert party. I didn’t make a note but I remember now that it was still raining when we arrived and as a result we were allowed to find our own space – so we managed to get one right at the front of the parking lot

We arrived at the park and oh my goodness it was mega busy! I had expected it to be busy (as there are limited opportunities to see the fireworks with all the Halloween parties) but it was way busier than I had expected. If I hadn’t booked the party I would have turned around and left!

We did manage to ride Peter Pan and Space Mountain using our Fast Passes (although the FP queue for Peter Pan was really long) but it was so busy walking around the park. We passed It’s a Small World and it had a 65 minute wait!

At some point we got drinks as it was so hot – I think from Fantasyland (they cost $8.50) and I know we went and got another before the fireworks as we had to fight our way through the crowds (this one was $3.60 with DVC discount.)

We checked in for the party (we had the after party booked) and then had to fight our way into the HEA dessert party area at about 2040, even with a cast member escorting a group of us it was hard work.

Main Street was absolutely packed! I couldn’t have watched the fireworks from there as it was far too squashed. The dessert party area was better but still felt quite busy which was a bit disappointing, having said that though we were able to watch the show in relative comfort which was the whole point.

After the fireworks we got into the giant crush of people and slowly made our way over to the dessert party.

We checked back in and got shown to our table and then we went off in search of desserts. I enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries and the red velvet cupcake. The cheeseburger spring rolls were quite good but the cheese and fruit options weren’t brilliant.

I also had some ice cream with sprinkles which was good. Rob and I both found the sparkling apple juice to be very sweet – we still drank it though!

The weirdest thing was the smores that were made – Rob went and got one and said it tasted like paraffin (they were heating the marshmallows over a flame) and I thought he was kidding…..so I went and got one and it did! I couldn’t eat it as it tasted so weird!

Overall I would say the dessert party was quite good but we definitely didn’t get value based on the amount we ate but I did get to see the fireworks which made me happy

The park was still busy when we finished so we decided to leave the park – it was about 2240 by now with the park closing at 2300 and with extra magic hours after that.

We took the resort monorail but even that was quite busy, once off though we were quickly on our way and we arrived home at about 2330.

I’ve never seen it as busy at that time of year!
