Visiting the Disneyland Hotels

Hi all,

My partner and I are planning to spend our first full day in Anaheim relaxing in the Disney area (rather than using one of our five park days on a day when we're likely to be jetlagged and grumpy!)
We'd like to have a wander round Downtown Disney, get a cocktail at Trader Sams at the Disneyland Hotel and check out the lobby of the Grand Californian. We won't have a car and we don't really have an idea of the scale of the place- can someone recommend the best route to take us between Downtown Disney and the two hotels without going through either of the theme parks?

Thanks!

This sounds like a fab way to spend your first day.

Everything is so close together at Disneyland. You can walk from one end of downtown Disney (the opposite end from the parks) in a couple of minutes (I think this was signposted). Then less than 10 minutes walk from Disneyland Hotel to Grand Californian. They aren’t particularly scenic walks (normal roads, pavements, car parks), but easily doable.

disneyland.disney.go/maps/ interactive map of Disneyland. On the map you'll see the Disneyland hotel on the left (west), Downtown Disney in between the Disneyland hotel and the parks, and the GCH just to the south of Downtown Disney.

You can easily walk between the DLH, GCH and the parks using Downtown Disney. It probably takes about 10 minutes to walk from one end of Downtown Disney to the other, so it's really not that far and very walkable. I found DTD fairly pleasant to walk through (though it gets crowded at night!).

Also just a note that there are 3 entrances into the GCH - the main entrance, DTD entrance, and DCA entrance. If things haven't changed, there are some restrictions on these entrances:
- Main entrance: can only enter GCH if a GCH guest (with room key card). Anyone can exit from GCH.
- DTD entrance: anyone can use this at any time.
- DCA entrance: entry into DCA only for GCH guests before 11am.

So would recommend using the DTD entrance for your case. (Just mentioning this as I did a brief tour of all 3 hotels including the PPH, and it was tempting to just walk across the parking lot to the GCH main entrance from the PPH as it looked shorter than going through DTD!)

Thank you both for the advice, it’s good to know that the area is pedestrianised and that the Grand Californian is accessible via DTD

The only thing you cannot do is enter the Grand Californian hotel from the main road into the main entrance via foot. The Guard will stop you, but if you do not have a car you won't be doing that anyway.
