I went to Vegas for the first time this year and had an amazing time. Yes I did get approached on the street but kept walking while saying no thank you. I must admit I was very aware of people in general and a few times crossed over from or gave a wide berth to people who I considered to look dodgy, buts that's no different to New York or London. I loved the casinos, I loved the themed hotels. We ate in some fab places. Museums, attractions (I even got my ride phobic friend on the New York New York Coaster), shopping. We did have a car so went out to Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon West too. There was just so much to do and I would go back again tomorrow. It's not for everybody but I loved it.

where is Bahama Breeze located please? Having a flying visit in April only because Aerosmith are playing there - I don't like Vegas but this time going with a view of 'embracing the tackiness' and then I won't be disapointed

The diner in the hotel was good and of course Ellis Island is right next door for ribs . It's a good moderate option for a base .
.

We had breakfast at Ellis Island great value and good service.

Have to admit I have seen a fair bit of the US now (currently sitting in bed in Cathedral City CA) ... been going regularly since 1988... first visit (4 days) to Vegas 2 years ago... it simply wasnt for me... found the whole place pretty depressing... yet my daughter (15 at the time) loved it... give me mountains... deserts and National parks anyday...

It's a bit off the strip. We got an Uber there, then walked back to the Venetian which took about 20 minutes or so.

1st went to Vegas in 2006 with my mum, there were loads of men slapping cards on the streets, super cheap to eat and drink, people smoked everywhere so everything smelt of smoke but it was Vegas it was meant to be cheesy and little seedy!
2nd visit in 2011 with my friend, not as many card slapping ppl, not as smoky but still good old school Vegas fun.
3rd visit in 2016 with my husband, no card slapping ppl, barely any smoke, all food and drink seemed to have rocketed in price, way too many families around and it was almost to upmarket.
I prefer the 2011 Vegas that was still pretty cheap to eat and drink most places, you could go from stall to stall on the strip getting frozen cocktails, stag parties were everywhere and it was FUN. I feel Vegas has tried too hard to clean up its act and as such much like Amsterdam it has lost what made it fun a little. I do not want to go to Vegas to be surrounded by families in sterile environments. I like the slightly seedy party city it was... I miss it!
