There is no right or wrong answer it is all about timing.
Yesterday I seen our flight prices with BA drop today the same flight prices have shot up. I watched our flight prices last year for the full year to get an idea of what was good/bad several weeks ago the prices dropped and we all agreed to book at the prices that were showing. The only real way to get the best prices is to be willing to travel indirect as direct are always more expensive. The way we work it flying indirect allows us to fly out a day earlier than we planned, we fly to Miami so although we have a long drive up we basically do not loose park time. And the extra day car hire and villa still works out cheaper than flying direct
