I would drop Monterey and also possibly 1 night in vegas. Palm Springs is nice and a good spot for an overnight . For LA consider what you want to do whilst there as you may need to split the stay.

SF is a beautiful place we hired bikes and cycled the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito then caught the ferry back which we enjoyed better than just driving across as there is no stopping. On our first road trip we only had a few nights at SD and it just was’nt long enough there is so much to do there and it’s such another beautiful place but like yourselves we just wanted to fit so much in.

You need to look at driving distances and times plus add extra time on as you will want to stop to take views in etc then see how long you will have in that place to see anything. On our 1st road trip the drive from GC to Monument Valley we planned to get there early afternoon but we were so taken by the beautiful scenery kept stoping and didn’t arrive until it was dark 😄😄 so I would say allow yourself time for this as you won’t want to miss out.

Maybe do 3 ngts Vegas 2 ngts GC.

Funny how we are all different I have been to the GC five times 3 day trips and 2 overnight I would never do 2 nights I think you can see all you need to in that time and see sunset and sunset if you desire.

I like the hotels but dont like the limited food ototions and to be honest whilst it is amazing you can only look at it for so long before getting bored, unless of course you want to trek and we don’t.

You do absolutely have to stay in the park though and not outside

5 nights in LA and I would be ready to shoot somone! Think what you wanat to do there and then work in your timings

Ie start and finish in the same airport, probably LA usually cheaper. You can then either do LA or drive to Palm Springs do the places you mentioned and after San Fran do 2 n Monterey ,fantastic, whale watching ,aquarium, 17 mile drive. Drive down to Santa Barbara stopping to sea elephant seals at San Simeon . There are lots of nice places and views to see on this drive.
You then arrive back to LA and do this or fly home
We have found the flights to be cheaper into SFO and out of LAX which is a pity as it means driving down Highway 1 you are not in the costal side

We did three nights in Vegas this trip and even with a 9 year old it was not enough we didn’t even go in all the hotels not up the stratosphere or Fremont Street. We have been countless times so we know what we want to see and have a car and use Uber so don’t waste too much time but it was not enough.
