3 week itinerary - is it doable?
Hi
We are not seriously talking about a 3 week roadtrip next summer and I wondered if this itinerary sounded doable? Fly into Vegas 2 nights Vegas 3 nights Yosemite 3 nights San Francisco 2 nights Monterrey 1 night Morro Bay/Avila Beach/Pismo Beach (we may not do this stopover) 2 nights Santa Monica 3 nights Anaheim 5 nights San Diego Fly back from LAX I know it's a lot of driving and the stretch between Vegas and Yosemite will be long (hoping to go via Death Valley). Kids will be 13 and 11 but are used to long car journeys.

It's certainly doable although I'm not sure if I would like to do the Vegas to Yosemite in one drive especially if you're adding Death Valley as there is also a lot of driving in the park to see the sights.
Be prepared for the high parking charges in San Francisco approx $50 per night unless your staying on the outskirts. |

I would agree with the Grump$ above. We did this route last month, Death Valley is certainly worth taking a little time to appreciate as you drive through. I think by the time you get to Yosemite, assuming you are planning on driving the Tioga Pass it would be late and you may not get to see much of it. I would recommend staying somewhere and setting off for Yosemite early the next morning. Would also possibly save a bit on cost of Yosemite hotel! We stopped at creekside inn at bishop and had a nice meal at the bowling alley restaurant next door!

All sounds good to us, drive to yosemite is about 5.5/6 hours other than that the other drives are easy.

Thank you everyone. Yes, the first drive is the one I was concerned about. I'll do some more research into it as we really want to see Death Valley.

Certainly doable.
You could even take a day off SF. SF is a bit marmite, some love it, others not so keen and we fall into that category. Was not that impressed with the city itself. It's nice to see some of the main sights, but as a city itself, they have a massive issue with homeless and people high on all sorts - not great when with young ones - you get that feeling of its not that safe. But did like Sausalito and Dylans tour is a big plus. |

What are you going to do for 2 days in Monterey ? I would add another night in Vegas and drop this to one.
I agree 100% about SF comment above however I had been twice and did. It like it at all, then I went years later with my wife stayed in fisherman’s wife and loved it and went twice in the trot but be warned now very expensive. |
