Mobile Make a Wish trip...

One of my good friends has had her little boys wish granted for a trip to Orlando, he’s recovering from leukaemia, and after a horrible few years with both his health and splitting up with the boys dad, it’s really needed. Thankfully he’s doing incredibly well, so they’re finally able to make the trip happen.

She’s asked me when the beat time to go is, weather wise more than anything. It has to be out of term (as per the charity) but having only been in augut/September, I’m really not sure when to look at!

Can anyone advise? They can’t have it too hot because he doesn’t cope well with the heat due to his meds, so I suggested start of March maybe, but I don’t have a clue! I’m obviously keen to help her plan as much as possible and to make it a trip to remember as it’s unlikely they will ever go again.

Any advise would be great! Thank you!x

Hi, february is a nice time to visit as is October time, so it may depend on whether they want to see halloween stuff or maybe christmas stuff and go November/september time. It is always busy and never a quiet time.

DD had a wish trip several years ago, when we went we got special passes, which took us to the front of fast pass queue, so not much waiting in line. Sometimes extra magic too, like when we went for a character dine in HWS, as they were clearing between sittings, they asked us to stay behind and brought over her two favourite characters at the time, (Handy Manny and Agent Oso) and they spent some time playing with her. Universal and seaworld do the same sort of things. We had disney tickets, universal and seaworld tickets. Different organisations do work differently though.

A wish trip is a lovely time to forget about hospitals, appointments and treatments, i am sure they will enjoy whenever they go. If they get to stay at Give Kids the World village, all food etc is taken care of, as well as characters visiting the village, christmas and halloween once a week to, a lovely pool and movies at night by the pool. Activities are laid on for visitors, and indeed ice cream for breakfast is actively encouraged!

Timings of trip may also depend on the doctors who are looking after them, for example we went in between MRI scans at about 6 months after chemo finished., not sure of monitoring etc for leukaemia, but that may also be a consideration.

Hopefully you will be able to pass on lots of tips from on here to help them have an amazing trip. X any questions please ask. 😃

I must read at least one post every day where people are saying it's always busy, never quiet. I always respond that it was quiet when I was there in September - most standby queues were 10 to 15 minutes It was hot though.

I would try and go when it isn't too hot but hot enough to enjoy pool time and outdoor activities in the GKTW Village if that's where they are staying. Very early in the year and very late in the year the weather can be very variable, so maybe Spring/Autumn might work best. Easter is super busy, so might want to avoid those crowds, but Wish Kids get front of line access I believe.

Since we had our wish trip they have also built a new complex for indoor activities as well (alot of kids cannot go out in heat or sun due to meds etc) so they really have thought of everything at GKTW!

Each organisation is different as to what they will do though, we were meant to go on one immediately at end of her treatment, they did GKTW and a week in their villa with a car, but you paid for your flight with a special scheme with no deposit to pay and didnt need to pay until a month before going, all insurances included, we were booked to go but DD fell ill near the end of treatment which caused it to be delayed. So trip was cancelled. Then we were put forward for Make a Wish, which was a week at GKTW but they covered the flights. The biggest cost with travelling after treatment is insurance, sometimes this can be the only way to travel abroad, as the wish organisations have access to special insurances.

I hope that your friend has an amazing time whenever she goes. X

May or September? Don't worry too much about how busy it is as you get a pass for skipping the queues for everything! Its amazing - we stayed at GKTW a few years ago

My nephew did his Make A Wish trip during November, it was lovely as the parks were decorated for Christmas but warm enough for a day at Discovery Cove - his wish was to meet a Dolphin and even though due to his condition my SIL/Brother were not sure he would be able to get in the water DC had the facilities to get him to the water and had a swim with one of the Dolphin trainers supporting him.

Thank you everyone! She's still waiting to confirm everything with Make a wish, but they have decided on October, we're out there in October next year with some other friends so it will be lovely to get to see them enjoy themselves after what's been a horrific few years for them. They will be staying at the Give Kids The World Village and I've seen what they provide, it's just going to be amazing for them!
