We’ve had a £1000 vet bill and a new boiler in the last month which is rubbish, but fortunately I save every month for Christmas so had money for presents etc. - my uncle has a bank account we all pay into so totally out of my control and he’s as hones5 as the day is long so no risk.

I’ve gone a bit overboard buying treats, especially as were at my Mum’s on Christmas Day, but fortunately there was room in the budget for it. We’ve got credits on gas and electric which I’ve requested back, and a £140 cashback payment, which will help soften the blow of the vet/boiler and the impending holiday!

I am not as flush as I’d like to be either this year. I find if I stick to my debit card I’m ok as I know it’s coming out of my bank account now. For that reason, that’s all I’ve been using. I normally buy our Christmas dinner from M&S and as it’s all in one place, I’m very conscious of how much it’s costing. This year, in a bid to save money, as I didn’t feel it represented great value this year, I’ve got bits from here there and everywhere and it doesn’t seem to be saving me money at all
