Auschwitz advice

Hi, I'm planning a trip to visit Auschwitz maybe in January with my teens and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for hotels/tour operators. It looks like Krakow is the nearest airport, but should I hire a car or get a taxi from the airport? I don't know anything at all about Poland so any advice is welcome!

Depends where you are staying. We've done the train into Krakow and it was easy. No way would we drive over there.

Hi,

Take a look at escape2poland, they do organised tours, they collect you from the airport, take you to your hotel, which they book and arrange organised tours of Auschwitz. They take the hassle and worry out of all of it

We also did the Salt Mines.

We stayed in Krakow and the square is amazing, any questions, let me know

Why wouldn't you drive there? The hotel we were looking at was in Oswiecim so pretty close to Auschwitz but not sure there will be much there!

We’re booked to go in Jan & plan a taxi from the airport & the hotel have organised the Auschwitz tour for us.

Also recommend that you change your Ł’s when there, but obviously not at the airport.

I’ve taken guidance from a few of my staff who are Polish & have quite a bit of experience of the area (well more than I do ).

I’ve got Polish friends who say they use Uber to get around over there, it’s cheap as chips and does the job. Although he could drive over there he still said Uber is the better option.

Hi
We went to Oświęcim this summer, we drove from France. The driving was no problem at all, the roads and drivers were much better in Poland than in France! We stayed at Oświęcim in an airbnb, and we would definitely stay there again. It was a log cabin with plenty of bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (we were a family of 5). It was cheaper than the hotels and it was great to use the kitchen etc. It was perfect for us as we drove to Krakow and other places for a day out, and the day we went to Auschwitz it was a 5 minute drive.
If we go again we would probably fly in to Krakow and hire a car, and stay in the same Airbnb.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a lovely time in Poland.

I would really recommend doing a guided tour of Auschwitz it really is the best way to see it. We wouldn’t have understood half as much and the opportunity to ask questions from our guide as we went along was really helpful.
It was a full day over the 2 sites but it made it very easy with a pick up from the hotel, escorted around Auschwitz and Birkenau and returned back to the hotel.
