Thanks, didn't know there was a Norwegian flight that early, useful to know. Hope you make the brunch.
Personally I would nearly always get the train (except very late at night) for any destination close to Penn Station, though I guess if you have a lot of luggage, small children or reduced mobility, it is more challenging. My personal record is an hour from wheels down (50 mins from reaching the gate) from EWR to hotel on Park Avenue, though that was with Global Entry and hand luggage, so "cheating" a bit Edited at 01:32 PM. |

We had the car as part of the flight price. DD travelled the day before and used the train -station across the road from hotel - and was there very quickly. Going home she left early for the airport as she would have been travelling at peak times and wanted to use the first class lounge. We would never get a car back to the airport as we were convinced were going to miss our flight. After and hour we had moved 1 block down and 1 across.

How much time do you give yourself getting back to the airport? Can you get a set fair like you can from the airport to manhatten?

I'd be leaving Manhattan 4-5 hours before expected take-off.
It's a fixed fare to and from JFK: To/From JFK and any location in Manhattan: Onscreen rate is ‘Rate #02 – JFK Airport.’ This is a flat fare of $52 plus tolls, the 50-cent MTA State Surcharge, the 30-cent Improvement Surcharge, and $4.50 rush hour surcharge (4 PM to 8 PM weekdays, excluding legal holidays). Passenger is responsible for paying all tolls. Please tip your driver for safety and good service. nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/pas...l#AirportTrips |

We landed at 3.20 on the 8th Nov - we’re through immigration and waiting for the train to Jamaica at 4.20, and was at Penn Stn at 5.30pm. This was during rush hour on a Thursday afternoon, so I think you should be ok on a Sunday! We went all the way to Manhattan by train though, so not entering sure when getting a cab because of traffic etc!
Coming home, we did the train again, and left our hotel by Grand Central at 5pm, was at JFK at 6.40 for a 10pm flight. Edited at 09:54 PM. |

We used the AirTrain and subway to get to our hotel. We were in terminal 4 and walked past the taxi queue and up an escalator (loads of signs so super easy) jumped on the AirTrain to Jamaica station $5 pp and then used the subway to get to 50th street subway station and then walked from there to our hotel. The subway passes were $32 pp for a week unlimited pass to the subway. Took us just over an hour from getting on the AirTrain to getting to our hotel.

We arrived about 11:30am and we were checking in our hotel on 37th street by 1pm. We flew through security and took the train to Penn Station.
