Driving licence extension?

Was anyone aware of this?

I noticed that my driving licence is close to expiring and I hadn't had a reminder, looked on the website and it says that all licences due to expire between 1st Feb and 31st Dec 2020 will be automatically extended by 11 months.

It says you can still renew within that time but when I try to online it won't let me.

I'll call them tomorrow and try to get some clarification but wondered if anyone knew anything about it?

Do you mean the 10 yearly photo card renewal? Just noticed that mine expires in a couple of months so I’ll need to look into what is required. I remember getting it all done by the Post Office who used a special photo cubicle last time.

Yes I tried to renew my mum’s online in October and it wouldn’t let me - just said that it had automatically been extended for the 11 months.

Yes. Usually you can do it online very easily. I think they take the photo from your passport.

Mine was the same, I took a screenshot as proof I had tried to renew it.

Just had a letter to renew mine. Think it's £14 and I can use my passport photo.

Mine expired in December and noticed the free extension. I decided to renew it anyway just before Christmas and it took about ten days to arrive back.
Very easy, £14 and they use your passport photo👍
