Slow cooker - I think I need a new one
For years I had a slow cooker and then around 3 years ago I smashed the lid. I couldn’t get a lid to fit so I thought I would get a new one - so I got a Crockpot from Argos and I’ve never been happy with it. Yesterday I popped my beef shin and veggies in on low at 12 o’clock and at 6pm it wasn’t even bubbling. So quick change of plan and we had something else and I decided to carry on and have it today. At 8pm I had to turn it up to high and when we went to bed it was finally cooked! I can’t carry on with this and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a replacement please 🙏

Helen - how do you find the non stick? I saw this particular one on the Lakeland website but lots of people have complained about the non stick coating. I was disappointed reading these because I had made my mind up that this was the one!

Not had an issue with mine but i never put anything nonstick in the dishwasher
I use it to sear but keep an eye on it , wipe it out and bung in a sow cooker liner then pop everything back in and then its just a wipe out It’s the shape i like for a joint or a chicken Ive got all of mine on today batch cooking If i had only one it be the one with the timer the most though |

Thank you - it does say not suitable for dishwasher. I’ll have another look at it 😉

I had a Morphy Richard’s sear and stew, initially I was very pleased with it but the coating failed quickly.
I bought a cheap replacement in the Next sale for £10 thinking it would do until I found something better. I’ve had it ten years now 😂 I did buy another larger one for joints but I haven’t used it much as it’s too fiddly and I can’t remember how to use the digital settings. Much prefer my cheap one. With just high, low and keep warm on an old fashioned dial. My advice would be to think about how to use it before deciding which one to get. Do you need all the extra functions? Would a heavy bowl be a problem? Etc |

I’m not sure now because the Lakeland one is too big for where it has to go 😩.
I have looked at the Morphy Richards one and I put it in my basket - I will re read the reviews to see if the coating is still coming off. I do like bells and whistles but the one I currently have only has 3 settings and I don’t think it’s working properly so I thought I would go up a level 😅

I have an original CrockPot bought when we lived in Australia in 1974 !
I still use it a lot all thru winter, only 3 settings Off High & Low. The real game changer was when the liners came out 😁 They are too big for mine but I still use them with no problem Sometimes you can add to many things to what was originally a really great little invention. Good luck with your quest, the best place to look is usually Lakeland, especially if your already a member, the 20% vouchers are a really boon

I’ve had three slow cookers. The original was a Crockpot but dh cracked the pot when cleaning it. Then I had the Morphy Richards sear and stew but like others have said, the coating started to come off. Now I have got two Asda own brand and they have been the best yet. I’ve had them for years now. They only have two heat setting, high and low but they are fab. I think they only cost £12 each and I got 2 so that when we have guests I can do two different curries. I don’t think I would go back to a more expensive one.

I have one from Tesco and it's fine for me, to be honest I rarely use it, we tend to use them to keep things like curry and chillie hot at family get togethers.
