Budapest. Baths in the winter?
We are off to Budapest for the Christmas markets and I’d quite like to visit the baths but I’m not sure what we need to take / how we manage the cold when we get out of the pool.
Has anyone done a winter visit to the baths? Edited at 09:34 AM. |

I was in Budapest last week. It was only the indoor baths open as far as we could see. Do you know which one you fancy as we were given some recommendations
It was bitterly cold with a real icy wind so wrap up well |

We went in December a few years back and did the baths and I honestly don't remember being that cold! It was definitely very cold weather but think we were fine in the baths. We mostly stayed in the outdoor ones. I think they give you a robe to wear? My husband absolutely hates the cold so he wouldn't have done it if you ended up freezing.
Would also recommend doing a river dinner cruise, that was lovely sailing along seeing all the lights while having dinner. |

We went to the Széchenyi Thermal Baths in Budapest just last weekend. We had a lovely couple of hours there. Széchenyi is the main spa which I saw on race across the world so wanted to go to that one.
I can’t lie it was cold going from bath to bath outside but walk quickly is my advise. It was nice and warm once in. We did a few pools inside then went outside and then came back in to do a couple more before leaving. Take your own towel, try not to fully dry between pools because the towel gets soggy pretty quickly which makes you colder, also a pair flip flop type shoes. But if you forget you can buy them once there. We got our own changing room to keep our things in and I’d definitely recommend paying for that. Kat

It was the Széchenyi ones I had seen on race across the world as well
Guess we will just have to walk briskly! |

That's the one we did too, think it's the most famous. We also did the private changing room and I think it came with a robe etc. It wasn't even that expensive.

We went to the baths in February this year and it was cold! We mostly stayed in the outdoor baths and were fine. My kids were in them for the whole day - which was wild.
When you get out, there are changing rooms which are pretty warm, and providing you're quick and get on with it, the adrenalin keeps you warm enough. I dont remember feeling unbareably cold at any point. It is cold, but a great experience. |

We went in March so probably warmer than it is now but I would definitely pay the extra to get the changing room, otherwise you have to change in a communal area. A swim cap is a must if you want to swim lengths, otherwise not needed but you do need flip flops and a towel or you’ll have to pay for them both there on the day. The water is lovely and warm, you can see the temp on the pic I’ve added below of the water temperature and the air temperature, hopefully you’ll enjoy it!

We went last February, stayed mostly outside! Agree about not getting your towel wet between baths, it doesn’t dry off at that time of year! Maybe take 2, one to wrap in, one to dry with.
