New Medical Condition
Evening
We are due to fly in January. Travel Insurance with Aviva via Nationwide. All pre existing conditions declared and paid for, however... I've been referred urgently for suspected skin cancer. If I tell them about it us there a system where they will still have cover in place just not for that particular condition? I'm panicking now. Firstly about the situation itself (I only went to GP about waxy ears) and the trip.

I believe that Nationwide require you to tell them only if you are booking a new trip following diagnosis. That is what mine says (though with the previous underwriter rather than Aviva)
But ignore this and all other advice and read your policy in detail. This will explain exactly when you need to contact them. Don't over think it - just follow what your policy says - nothing more and nothing less. Edited at 11:22 PM. |

Thankyou. It does say that! I'm struggling to think straight at the moment.

A non bank cover insurance will not cover an undiagnosed (yet to be confirmed) incident but not sure about bank cover so best ring to ask. Trouble is at present appointment wise, whilst usually quick, then needs a possible biopsy appointment then a results appointment - DH waiting for the biopsy appointment which is after February! We go away every February so in same position as you at present.

If it helps we have recently paid for the upgrade for pre-existing conditions with Aviva through Nationwide.
It states clearly the pre-existing conditions covered by the upgrade and the dates of the upgrade, which is one year. The opening paragraphs of the letter state: Cover under your pre-existing conditions upgrade is in place. Now that it's done, you don't need to contact us about changes to the health of anyone covered by your upgrade until it ends. We'll cover claims arising from the medical conditions you told us about, any changes to those conditions, any new symptoms and any new diagnoses that develop after the start date for the people covered by your upgrade. I assume you would have to go through the upgrade process again though if you were travelling after the end date of the upgrade?

If you’ve already paid for the pre existing medical cover (for a different medical issue) then you’re covered for everything and anything until that cover expires after 12 months. You’ll be a bit stuck for coverage if you need to renew your policy before January but Aviva said I’d be covered for everything EXCEPT claims arising from my undiagnosed condition when I was in a similar situation. So delays, baggage claims, getting a tetanus shot after standing on a rusty earring at the beach club 🙈 were all covered.
Sending you a big hug, hope it’s all ok x |

Thanks all. Quick update. I couldn't wait for NHS appointment. Husband has Bupa so went private. Got seen this evening. Consultant said 110% sure not BCC 200% sure not SCC which is what referral said. Actually quite perplexed why GP referred but says it happens alot lately. Thanks for all your replies I can get on with planning now.

If this is an additional/different medical condition to any pre existing conditions declared for the upgrade OP would be required to let Nationwide/Aviva know

Which is exactly the opposite of what it says in the letter confirming our upgrade. How strange that yours should be different.

Oops, massive apology M for poorly worded post and misleading OP
Thats not whats on my letter its just that I,d have thought any new medical condition would need to be declared to insurance company Personally would call insurance company for a bit clarity and peace of mind.No harm in that Edited at 10:53 AM. |
