Perforated Eardrum

Never had an ear infection in my life, however the last nearly 3 weeks have been horrendous.
Had 2 lots of antibiotics still pain so returned to docs Wednesday to be told because of the infection you have a perforated eardrum. More antibiotics and a check up in 2 weeks.
I have never known pain like it, anyone had this and know how long pain will last (I know probs everyone heals different) but just after any experience info.

Oh god I’m so sorry for you, it’s horrible 😢I did mine few years ago with a cotton bud it went down too far, never again
The pain was awful I couldn’t hear properly & everything sounded distorted, I thought I’d never hear again, but it will get better I think mine took 6 weeks
Take care 🙏🏻❤️

The doctor needs to swab your ear to find out the type of infection to get specific antibiotics.

My DD has a permanent perforated ear drum and get drops now rather than oral antibiotics as they are better.

Keep your ear dry when showering or washing your hair. Any water can make the infection worse. You can buy ear plugs from Amazon.

DD finds Sudafed helps as it clears all your tubes and reduces any pressure but now it's popped it should be less painful anyway.

Lola's Reviews
Hotel Reviews: 1
DD was stuck in Montreal on a work trip for nearly 3 weeks with an ear infection which meant she couldn’t fly home. Luckily she was in a very nice hotel and work insurance paid so not too bad, just sad she couldn’t use the pool.

Definitely avoid water! I had an ear infection which didn’t subside until it perforated. Anti-inflammatories help to ease the pressure a little if you’re able to take them. I also found heat soothing. Mine got so bad I was biting on a tea towel to stop from screaming. I was about 16 and seeing me in that much pain made my Dad cry. Ear aches are horrid. Feel better soon xx

DH had a perforated ear drums a few weeks ago. Lots of oozing from his ear lots is pain. Antibiotics cleared the infection but the pain was dreadful. He’s still really deaf in that ear but the pain has subsided for now. It just takes time.

So sorry to hear this, it’s the most excruciating pain isn’t it.

Mine perforated after a nasty ear infection about 12 years ago. It took about 6 weeks for it to return to normal.

Please be very careful as your balance maybe off. I got up from the sofa too quickly and toppled over, crashing into the fireplace and breaking my foot.

That sounds horrible

My ear drum perforated on a flight out of Florida a couple of years ago. As others have said, it took about 6 weeks or so to heal. Initially, avoid things like lying on that side, bending forward and definitely don't get it wet.

I hope it clears up soon!
