We are doing 2 days at US & IOA next year, staying onsite so not sure if that gives us an advantage, can we book a slot of the app? Or is it just a case of turn up and wait.

currently you just need to be in the park to book a slot - they are being released through out the day.
It could all change for next year so you just need to wait and see what the process is then

Personal preference but I would always want to be the rider as opposed to the passenger.
Don't know if this is still the case but what we found last year was that the vast majority of single riders where placed in the sidecar

Either bike or sidecar are great. Have ridden in both. Feel a bit more exposed on the bike so perhaps a bit more of a rush but it is a fantastic ride

We were on within 30 mins park opening Sept last year and it was the best ride we went on in thev2 weeks. (Came off and queues were 2hrs plus)

One tip I can give is don’t look at any videos and let the ride surprise you. That’s what we done and it made the ride so much more enjoyable.

I agree with this, we've ridden in both a few times, personally I prefer the bike but the side car is still a lot of fun.

Fortunately for me DH prefers the side car, but we usually go through the single rider line so let the person we're being put on with choose.

Same, in the old days without virtual queues and attendance restrictions... we queued up, stuck to the right hand side of the path and got on right away, we were child swapping and it was great. When we got off the queue was insane.
