Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Opening Day Crowds
Today, 31st May was the Official opening day for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland California and we were there to experience the magic.
Entry to Disneyland California’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge until 23 June is only via a pre booked reservation. With a reservation you get a 4 hour time slot, you can activate your reservation 2 hours before your reservation start time but you are not allowed in to Galaxy’s edge until your actual reservation time. If you arrive a few minutes early, you are held at a rope half way down the path leading to Galaxy’s Edge along with all other guests that have the same reservation time. At the appointed reservation time the rope is dropped and every moves into the land on mass. We don’t know the exact number of reservations Disney released for each time slot but it looked to be a few hundred in the queue. The crowd moved in an orderly fashion and eventually dispersed to different parts of Galaxy’s Edge. The five main areas that quickly accumulated large queues were. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Oga’s Cantina Savi’s Workshop Droid Depot Millennium Falcon Photo Opportunity Smugglers run we found had a 60 minute wait at the beginning of the reservation time slot. It did rise to 90 minutes but in the last hour of the time slot the wait time dropped to 10 minutes. Oga’s Cantina had a large queue constantly, even at the last hour of the reservation time slot the queue was snaking outside. Savi’s workshop the queue formed very quickly as guests were eager to start building their custom lightsabers. We did note that after a couple of hours they stopped taking any more orders. They didn’t start taking orders again until the next wave of guests from the next reservation time slot was granted entry. So if this is something you want head here first. Droid Depot queue was large at the beginning of the time slot but reduced to almost no queue after a couple of hours. There is a Photo opportunity in front of the Millennium Falcon and the queue for this built up very quickly and didn’t really subside until after a couple of hours. The merchandise shops all had a small queue outside that seemed to move very quickly. The Milk Stand had a large queue to start with but after about an hour it subsided. We did note that they had run out of Green Milk at one point. The food outlets, Ronto Roasters and Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo seemed to not have much of a queue. Overall we think Disney have managed the crowds in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge extremely well for an opening day.
