I don't have a definite answer to that Im afraid.

However, if I were to hazard a guess...

The ride heights aren't set by Disney. They are set by the ride manufacturers.

Space Mountain: Mission 2, Rock n Rollercoaster & Big Thunder Mountain at DLP are all built by Vekoma.

Indiana Jones is built by Intamin (after cloning the layout from defunct company Pinfari)

Maybe the Swiss (Intamin) have taller kids than the Dutch (Vekoma)?!

Or maybe just different standards/guidelines/policies between the two different manufacturers.

This is my type of thread! We need more geeky threads talking about ride stats! I could do it all day (and regularly do to the annoyance of colleagues).

And if you want a rough ride, the Corkscrew that was at Flamingo Land until last year and now living in the south of France makes SM at DLP feel like a smooth B&M (the Rolls Royce of rollercoasters for you non geeks)

I would love to be more of a coaster geek but don't have time to research so just enjoy reading posts from James etc with loads of details.

Regards height restrictions, as James has said Indiana jones was built by a different company and their seat/carriage design is different and the chances are that the ergonomics of it mean that it would not sufficiently restrain a person less than 140cm tall, whereas the restraints on SM2 etc can safely hold a smaller person. When I did design ergonomics was my thing I only studied mechanical engineering as my dream was to design coasters.

Strangely though, SM has the highest age restriction at age 10. Though I can't imagine them stopping anyone over the required height.
My son has been riding it for years, but he has always been very tall for his age.
I think he was around 7 when he first rode, but then he's always been a thrill ride junkie.

I didn't know that there were age restrictions as well as height. My kids have always ridden once they were tall enough - never knew about the age bit!

It's not recommended/suitable for under 10s, rather than a restriction.
My 8 year old would have been tall enough at 7, but he's a bit wary of 'dark' rides, so hasn't ridden it yet.

I did read somewhere it was a restriction, but that must have been wrong.

I think Crush has a recommended age of 7yrs but DD rode that as soon as she was tall enough. Funnily enough no idea if there is an age guideline for ToT, which is terrifying psychologically, I know it is make believe but it still freaks me out!

ToT is not recommended for under 3s Karen. My youngest was 3 when we were at WDW and almost went on it, but he changed his mind as it was so dark in the area where you wait on the numbers. Think he'd love it now, but he hasn't tried it yet.

ToT is my favourite ride of all! Love it! Hubby only went on it once (opening day at DLP) he was green after, and has never been back on since lol!
