We love DLP we also love WDW but we recognise that they are completely different places to visit and we dont expect WDW at DLP.

There is a huge amount of magic at DLP, its our happy place.

As a family we thing that the food at DLP is in many places far superior to some of the places in WDW.

We have found that there is smoking in the parks and yes we've found it annoying but i think that you have to accept that there is smoking outside in a lot of places and we try not to let it worry us any more, its easier now the children are older and not in pushchairs so we can get away from it, we notice it most as you exit rides and sometimes have to exit through a cloud of smoke, big thunder mountain is one of the worst places.

Another of our gripes is the character meet and greet have been chaotic in the past with people pushing children out of the way, so its interesting to read Gills comments that she didnt find that the case this time, we've always got around it by doing character meals instead which works just fine.

You will have an amazing time.

Its each to there own i know, and what annoys me others will take with a pinch of salt but, no - we didn't like it.
On our trip (and I know its not like this for everyone) we found the french to be ignorant and arrogant. Had more rows with French people there than I have had in my whole life lol. Pushing in was a big one. Inconsiderate on so many levels. Pretending they couldn't understand you, when for example = they put a child on their shoulders even though they are at the front for the parades and then everyone behind cannot see - Smoking where ever they like (I know they can there i'm just not used to it).
Everything is spoken in French as well as English. If they didn't say in English we were told to ask them to - TBH its not the most relaxing holiday we have ever had.
Saying that, if I knew I wasn't ever going to WDW again I would prob go ha ha.
As I say, I know there are loads of people that go all the time and love it. Its prob just me...

Brits do all those things too - plenty of pushing in and kids on shoulders at WDW!

Also, let's not forget you are on holiday in France - a smile and a 'Bonjour' works wonders, even if that is all the French you know! We go on holiday to Europe a lot and try to learn and speak as much of the language as possible. I had some great conversations in rusty 30-year old school French with CMs. Our next task is to learn some Dutch before our Amsterdam trip in June.

We didn't like it, didn't have the happy buzz for us, the weather was really cold so didn't feel like doing much, rude people and very expensive, we all got a bug so may of put a bit of a downer on it, if I was in the area then I may call in for a day but would rather save for Florida as I do like the sun and the whole Florida thing not just for the Disney bubble.
I do have friends who love it and go every other year but they haven't been to Florida!

Hope you have a great Anniversary where every you go.

French being spoken in France? Quelle horreuer!

I really liked the Europeanness of it. I thought it was nice for the children to be exposed to another culture/language - it was their first holiday abroad. I didn't notice the French bring significantly ruder than the British your groups either.

Like Gill I found people SO appreciative of my clumsy attempts to speak French, particularly the nice man at the kiosk at the train station outside DLP who commented that my French was significantly better on my last day than my first!

We have just returned from our first trip to WDW after 7 trips to DLP. We had a fantastic time in Florida, and will hopefully return in 2-3 years, but I have booked another trip to DLP in December because we felt that the comparable rides are far superior in Paris. Namely:- Space Mountain - has loops!, POTC - much longer, Big Thunder Mountain - seems longer in Paris, Aerosmith RNR - again seems longer. As previous posts have said, you cannot really compare because they are both different experiences, but both definitely worth visiting. Sadly I cannot afford to visit Florida every year, but I can DLP so, our intentions are to visit WDW again in 3 years, with DLP in-between.

We love DLP. It's a very different experience, but we like the slightly slower pace and have learned to take the time to appreciate more of the 'lesser' DLP attractions, such as the art of animation. Plus, they have Crush's Coaster - amazing! Even in icy December and February, it's been absolutely fine.

The only downside for me is that the customer service has never been as tip top as in the states. Having said that, it doesn't detract from the great time I've had on our trips there. In fact, even contracting mumps in DLP wouldn't put me off going back there next year (we'd go this year but we're off to WDW instead!)

We've only been twice, but thoroughly enjoyed both trips. We found many of the rides newer and thus improved compared to their US equivalents (POC / BTMRR spring to mind). The CMs were charming. Food was no better or worse than the US parks (albeit we didn't eat in CG). I felt the Disneyland Parc had a unique charm and was more beautiful than WDW and DL.

We prefer to have holidays in the US (because DLP isn't a 2 or 3 week holiday) but as a short break DLP was really lovely.

Getting Excited

As a family we have been to WDW and to Disneyland California many times. I have also visited Disneyland Paris twice in a work role escorting groups of students.

I thought DLP was a pretty good experience and have looked into going with my family but it is very expensive and I cannot justify it. We can only go in school holidays due to my work as a college lecturer and also due to the fact that my grandchildren have to comply with school holidays or their parents (my son/daughter etc) are fined.

We have been looking for prices in May bank holiday, Easter, summer holiday etc and it is simply much too expensive. We want to stay onsite in the 'bubble' as we do when we visit WDW but cannot justify the money it will cost for 5 days 4 nights for a family of 7.

From what I see here many of you go during term time or stay off site to reduce costs and that is simply not for us. It's a shame as a short trip Disney fix would be lovely for our grandchildren but the cost is just too high for such a short break.

The main park is very pretty, rides are good and the studios (although small) has some good rides as well. For us though the cost per day for what you get does not stack up
