We have organised our own tour of Rome as it was so expensive to do it with Disney.

If you want the details, send me a PM and I'll look it all up for you tomorrow (not on home computer now).

Our tour is with a legit company, born and bred in the area, takes you to all the places Disney does, plus more for less money!

our day in Rome

Hi
If you are not def on an excursion - we did the day ourselves and went well. We got the train to Rome - booked in advance and got first class seats - booked Colliseum in advance and then took bus tour - hoho -

The excursions would have worked out about $900 for 2 adults and 2 children and I wouldnt have paid that for any day trip. People we met on the boat got a private car tour around and managed to fit in a look at Sistine Chapel as well for a lot less than excursion costs.

All depends whether you like it all organised for you and dont want to miss anything. I prefer to take it slower and cheaper.

If I went back again id do the same thing - even managed to stop off for pizza - and back on the train before 4pm so not too long a day.

Lynne

Thanks, think we are going to catch the train to Rome to see the colliseum, I work with someone from Rome so they are going to help out there.

We are also going to catch the train from Villefranche to Monaco ourselves.

Let the planning commence

Doing DIY is suppose to be simple for Pompeii, have a look at the 20/08 thread, first page for the Pompeii bit. We're going to take the train ourselves and DIY it.

I don't know of any tour companies, but I did read some recommendations on someones TR there, sorry can't remember more, all this planning is doing my head in. WDW is so much easier.

Hi for pompeii we got a taxi from the port - taxi left us for 2 hours at pompeii then drove us to Sorrento for a couple of hours. We were going to just get the train but the taxi drivers outside the port were offering fares below the named prices - cant remember exactly but think it was about 160 euros for the round journey but coul;d have been 90 euros to pompeii. Driver was great and offered us to have final tour round naples by car but kids were so tired we just went back to boat.

Train station is supposed to be close by but to walk you have to cross some busy rouads and the taxi drivers at port refuse to take you as they are holding out for the big journeys
