Depends on airline. Tui are very strict as lots of people at bag drop had to pay extra or take stuff out.

Fees for BA are Economy 1st extra bag £60 or $90, £120 for each additional bag and for extra bags in WT+/Club/First. For over weight bag 23kg to 32kg its £65/$100.

Virgin Atlantic is £65/$100 (in econ) for 1st extra bag and for every extra bag its £140/$200, (also for extra bags in PE/UC) or £65/$100 for an overweight bag.

Cheapest way to pay for BA is on BA.com, I suspect its similar for VS as well.

I think that OP is travelling with TUI as it was mentioned in another thread. In my (limited) experience with TUI they're quite strict.

The policy is here - tui/destinations/i...gage-allowance

ETA - we had our hand luggage weighed at the counter when travelling with TUI.

Yes, I’m flying with tui.

Tried ringing them but they said I’d just have to pay at the airport because it’s less than 24 hours.

Can’t find any info on an extra case, only on extra kg.

On the way out tui never weighed our handluggage but if they do on the way back then I’m gonna cry cos it’s way over 5kg 😂😂😂

IMHO if you have disposed of all your non essentials the best option would be to buy a cheap suitcase and put all your extras, including hand luggage excess, within and then pay at the airport.

Is anyone else under their allowance as it looks like TUI allow pooling of weight on the same booking as long as no bag is over 23kg.

Extra KG cost £18/$27 each.

So that was a nightmare 😂😂😂

Given different advice on the phone to what we go at the airport which apparently happens quite frequently.
Was told we could just check in an extra bag for a set amount of $$.
Got to the airport and it wasn’t like that at all, it was a price per kg and it came to over $300 😂😂😂
So we were that family who sits in the airport trying to get more stuff out of the cases lol.

Managed to get it down to $50 excess but threw out loads of stuff that we needed/wanted to keep but were more likely to be replaceable back home.

They weighed our handluggage which they didn’t do on the way here. Mine was way over so had to put some stuff in my big suitcase so gotta home my breakables survive 😭

That's annoying as from the 1st of May Tui are allowing 10kg hand luggage. You would think they might have been a bit more lenient!

Well it wasn’t 5kg hand luggage and mine was 12kg 😂😂😂

Another woman advised us all to take laptops out of the luggage though because they don’t count that weight in the allowance.

I got my handluggage down to 7kg and she let me go
